i agree with those that don't want him in the program. i want him gone, and the facebook stuff has zero to do with it.
I think the problem people have with it is that it only adds to things. If he really just made a mistake(s) and was remorseful he wouldn't be in the groups he's in or put up the statuses he does. At least not if he was smart. For me at least, that's why that stuff bothers me. If nothing else, just be smarter than to put things like that in the open.

I'm all for second chances, but I think he's already gotten a second..and a third, and this would be four? At some point you run out.

The issues at UConn and the incident here are somewhat typical of the trouble some kids have....many. many kids have similar issues. They indicate a total lack of discipline and an "above the law" attitude.

But I'll take the kid who occasionally gives in to the temptations of college......if he screws up, give him whatever rope you want.....once he's out of rope, goodbye.

The Facebook stuff is either an INCREDIBLE lack of intelligence or an INCREDIBLE lack of respect for the world. It really just demonstrates an antisocial personality - he does what he does, and doesn't give a bleep.

This stuff is on a different level. The level of stupidity and disrespect is off the charts.

The fact that you feel that way is sad and not surprising. Call it whatever you want, it's him flippig the bird to the world and announcing he's an asshole.

ktabz16 - like it or not, a Facebook page by a player is a public representation of the University. His Facebook page reflects very poorly on UMass.

To a degree I'm sure that's true, ktabz. It's the complete disregard for the possibility that irks me and that I think reflects more poorly on his character than his recent unfortunate arrest.

no one's cruising dougie wiggins' facebook page for impressions of umass as a university or a basketball program.
well if/when wiggins interviews for a job, the employer will likely care about whats his facebook page, but i doubt that would change their opinion of umass and the bball program

ktabz - I don't think he's an 'asshole'. I've been in his camp for the most part because I think young men can make poor decisions and not have it be an accurate reflection of their character. I'm not a Facebook guy and haven't played around with cleaning up content on my page - I'm assuming one can but obviously I may well be wrong. I think the coaches should be coaching them on not publicly presenting themselves in ways that reflect well on them and the Univeersity.

Nothing to do with against the law or not....it's the mindset. What he posted was not some dumb joke, it was ridiculous for someone in his position. He is eitherreally stupid or a cpmplete jerk.

You can drink or smoke weed without falling into one of those categories.

I used to smoke weed and I still enjoy a good beer. I don't think I'm really stupid but I am a complete jerk - which I think is better than being a partial jerk.

If you have a PO, you've taken it to a different level than we're speaking about here.... :)

Were you a college athlete with a rap sheet who was told (hopefully in Wiggins' case) that your first UMass fuckup would also be your last UMass fuckup?

we don't know what he was told when he was accepted here - at least i don't. he made a silly mistake and compounded it with an immature reaction. i hope/expect dk's been working to make him a more responsible person and that a clear threshold's established going forward regarding his position with the program vis a vis his behavior.

as of right now, and after talking with him this seems to be the case, regardless of the suspension hes still a member of this team and plans on being here. hopefully he can get this stuff together and stay out of trouble, because hes an undeniable talent, one who i would certainly like to see play for us next year.
