I've never been on facebook but I know that employers regularly check these types of sites to get a feel for what people are like. You simply can't post those kinds of things out there and then expect people not to judge you by them. You can think that people shouldn't judge you but 99% of people will.

Kids are regularly undermining their own futures with these public postings of private matters. I hear stories about it all the time.

The kid is about to get yet another lesson in the realities of life and society in general.

Mike:

In the Springfield Newspaper yesterday, it stated that Doug did not have a scholarship this year, but was going to have one next year.

I hope things work out.

Not true. I can see his full profile.

I'd have to look at his networks, but you might be able to see it since you are probably part of the CT or Hartford network, which he might be part of as well from his UCONN days.

Facebook is set up that you can only see full profiles of people in the same network as you. If you are in the UMASS or Boston network, you should be able to see mine, but if you were in, say, the NYC network and not in either the UMASS or Boston network as well, you couldn't see my profile. You can be in 2, maybe 3 networks. This, of course, depends on individual privacy settings as well that the person sets up.

Then again, I could be wrong... that was the way it used to work.

I guess we should have realized that any guy Yukon actually cuts loose is worse than just your average shady character

It's amazing what people put on facebook, it is viewable by millions, including employers, and post-graduate schools. The Health Careers Advisor back at Furman told all of the premeds that they needed to be VERY careful about what was on their facebook page, because the medical schools often look at them. What may seem "cool" to some peers sometimes doesn't go over well with employers or graduate schools. Sure, lots of college kids get drunk and do stupid things at parties, but if they don't have the sense to realize that they don't need to broadcast those activities, it makes you wonder....

It seems to me that most of what Doug is posting is either quotes from Rap Artist or his attempt to write his own rap lyric. I know that sounds crazy to some but for young people caught up in the culture of Hip Hop it is not. He seems to be trying to express himself, I don't like his F the world attitude at all. But I'm not going to judge what type of kid he his until I hear he's refused to follow the rules of the agreement that should have been made as a condition of his enrollment at Umass.

Note to Doug:

It's time to look in the mirror and take responsibilty for your future.

I have heard from an employee in the Bursars office at UMass that they really frown upon their employees, even student help, having facebook pages.

I used to bench 225 for sets. Now all I do is Ralph Cross!

I pretty sure that he's paying his way this year and was to be put on scholarship next year, I think I remember reading that somewhere.

As awesome as getting Jackson would be does anyone think its realistic he would a. Come here and b. Would Cal really let a kid from Memphis that good get away?

I guess the one thing we do have going for us is that he is on the same AAU team as Sampson Carter....

The official word from the team is that he's suspended indefinitely. I imagine they're waiting for the case to go through the legal system before they make any other decision.

I have talked with him many times since the incident occurred and he seems very confident that he will be playing next year. Also adding many times that were going back to the dance next year. Love the confidence, hopefully he'll be around to make good on it!
