Who do you think will be the next head coach?

Post by DEM » Sun Apr 20, 2008 11:56 am

Not who you want, but who you think will be the next head coach. I've added options that I've seen on this board that I think are viable (no Bob Knights or washed up NBA guys). I'm sure I missed a few, but these are the guys that I've found.

I went with Brad Brownell. I think his resume is too impressive for the AD to put anyone else before him. The question is if he's not waiting for a midwestern Big-10 job first (Illinois?). If not him, I'd say Randy Monroe.

He may have said he's not interested in the position, but I'd throw Barbee on the list. We all saw that coaches aren't always 100% truthful in these instances.

Maybe. But the fact that Matt Vautour said he offically withdrew his name has me thinking that it's more factual in this case.

On another note, here's an interesting quote from one of the coaches on that list:

“In my opinion that’s one of the best point guards in America,” Dambrot said about Lowe. “I’ve been fortunate, I coached LeBron James in high school.

“I think he has a lot of the same attributes as LeBron had. He has the knack for making winning plays.”

I voted for Randy Monroe. I watched the video of him on You Tube. I liked his passion and the way his players and fans reacted to him. We need someone who can follow Travis with a similar excitement for the game. Randy Moore seems to have it.

DK, because of the man behind his candidacy.

Just like a few years ago, I think Tom Moore is the best choice, and after watching him coach a few miles down the road from me this year, I'm certain of it - but there is no way he would leave QPac after 1 season. I think DK is my 4th or 5th choice at this point (Barbee would be my #2, then Brown, maybe UMBC coach or O'Shea, but don't know enough about them) but I have a feeling we will end going the DK route, which won't be a bad decision, just not the one I would have made - but what the hell do I know about pickinga CB head coach.

I'm curious as to why some think Tom Moore would be the best choice. As a head coach, he hasn't done anything particularly noteworthy yet. Compare his resume to somebody like, say, Brown at Albany, and I see it as no contest. Is it because Moore is local?

For me, i liked Moore because he has an impeccable reputation among local coaches at the AAU and prep school level. he isn't as well known at the local high school powerhouses, but has had repeated contacts with many - and he knows the landscape very well. He was widely considered to be one of UConn's chief tacticians during their heyday as well as the chief recruiter.

And yes, he is a local. And during the interview process last time, he made repeated comments to the like of "Coaching UMass has alwys been my career ambition."

He ran a great system at Q-Pac last year, really getting alot out of of some inadequate players for that league.

Nothing wrong with the other top choices in my mind, I just like Moore the best.

Fair enough. He does seem to be an able coach. I wouldn't mind it if he were selected.

I know this may sound like a stretch, but what about Sean Sutton? I know it sounds like we traded head coaches but we know he is unemployed and has coached at a higher level. Just a thought

It's like 2-year-olds throwing temper tantrums around here. You know they are going to do it. You just can't stop it.

Same with fans throwing out every name they can think of. Really, do we have to?

Sean Sutton? I have to channel UMass87 here and say: Hold that thought, Umass86.

Actually, 87 would say something more direct, but you get the point.

Hiring Sean Sutton would be the ultimate fuck-you to OSU, but the Steve Lappas clusterfuck is too fresh in everyone's minds to even consider him right now.
