Boone Pickens, his money and his politics

Post by txprog » Fri Apr 18, 2008 2:58 pm

Hang with me here. Pickens is a Texas buffoon (I live in Texas and there are a lot of them here) who gives ungodly sums to OSU atheletics while, reportedly, many programs and departments there are well under funded. Pickens also gave millions to the swift vote liars who had no interest in the truth, just the goal of sliming, for political purposes, a solid American politician who actually made the choice to serve in an immoral war, while others did whatever it took to avoid going. The ends justifies the means, don't you know.

OK. So Pickens is highly partisan Repub with mis-placed priorities.

The irony here is that most football and basketball players at OSU are Black. And Blacks vote 90% for Democrats. And it is proven that w occupies the White House largely because of the wide-spread dis-enfranchisement of Black voters in 2000 and again in 2004. Again, the ends justifies the means on this. At least for these guys.

So, while it's OK for Black boys to run and jump and shoot and tackle and score to make ole Pickens get his jollies, I wonder how he feels about the really important stuff, about voting and power and social justice and that sort of stuff. If keeping the Black vote down, if keeping some of those very same AMERICAN atheletes who bring him such joy from voting, means Repubs win elections, is he also for that? His record makes you wonder.

Ford took the money because it was too good to turn down. But if it was indeed Pickens' money, then he took dirty money from a bad guy. I do not wish him success there.

It's more relevant than your username. Isn't it about time for a new one?

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul"

I don't know, the first paragraph looks just about spot on. Boone offered $1,000,000 to anyone one who could disprove one fact in the swift boat ads. When Kerry took him up on it he changed his tune, adding new conditions and running like a scalded dog.

To bring it back to basketball, anyone want to lay a bet on how quickly he'll threaten to pull his $$$ the first time Travis makes him unhappy or fails to kiss his a**?

I could care less about his politics regardless of how much money he has he only gets one vote. When it comes to college sports since there are no rules preventing him from doing so I congragulate him on having such passion and using the $$ he has to enjoy himself while he is still living. I'm completely jealous and wish we had boosters like that so we could just buy our next great coach and $$ wasn't an issue for the school......

Boone needs to donate his money to something that can actually help the world and not just OK State.
