Re: Thank you DK
I met DK once. 5(?) years ago UMass played Northern Illinois in DeKalb IL. I went down to the court and after he finished up with the post game show he came over and talked to me. We both grew up in the Springfield area and talked about where our parents were living, Amherst, etc. Everyone on this ...

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
The students leaving after the 1st quarter was far worse than griping about the stadium. I have always thought we were fortunate that not only was Gillette available for our 1A move, but we also had a campus stadium, not just stands on the side of a field, but a stadium to work with. The university ...

Re: Parking @ McGuirk
Drove in right before kick-off from Rocky Hill Road, there was a barrier in the middle of the entrance with no staff but I could drive around it. The parking website made it sound like you could not go to the west side of the stadium. I had a parking pass for the South Loop and was under the ...

Re: Conference realignment 3.0
^ Agreed, and what Mountain West teams would want to join a raided AAC? It would be a wash for improvement then add time zone problems and broken rivalries.

Re: Conference realignment 3.0
With the prospect of Temple (and Navy for football) being the only school(s) left in the northeast for the AAC, if you added UMass, URI, and George Washington as full members and Army for football there would be an even number for both major sports. This is assuming the B12 takes 2 or 4 AAC schools ...

Re: Conference realignment 3.0
The AAC and MWC are going to serve the power 5 conferences like the Patriot conference does for the Ivy league. Being in one of those two conferences is going to be half staying in the game and half looking good an a printed schedule. I really think having "Massachusetts" (or Tulane, Connecticut ...

Re: Conference realignment 3.0
Of all the schools the Big 12 may be looking at, I would not be surprised if Houston gets a push from lawmakers in Texas to convince U Texas and Texas Tech to vote for them. I believe the governor of Virginia pressed their flagship university (who wanted to be the only Virginia school) to pull for ...

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Our locker rooms for home (and away teams?) are in the performance center, and the rest of the area is stands that are ripe for being ripped down. We could easily build our stadium in sections..
The away team lockers rooms are the old locker rooms south of the stadium and also house "the ...

Re: future scheduling talk
Nothing at all in it for us.
Exact same quote UConn gives regarding us. Due to having no leverage setting up games, including teams refusing to play at McGuirk as a home game, we are going to be playing a 1AA each year until we get into a conference. The only 1AA games I would be interested in ...

Re: More happiness with direction of football program
I remember when UMass made the official announcement. Ron put together an article like he just came out of the shower and was caught off guard. For years he bashed the idea of moving to 1A and he must have though he was speaking to the majority. I think he has a axe to grind because he didn't have ...

Re: Game 6 - Kent State - Homecoming
Besides UMass having the benefit of playing at Gillette to make the move to FBS, they also had an actual football stadium on campus to work with as well. If you look at all the old foes from the 1-AA era, with the exception of Delaware and Holy Cross, all these other fields had just grandstands and ...

Re: Venue change
Count me as someone who, if we have 15K-17K people willing to pay to watch UMass football, couldn't care less if there's room leftover for band day. It was a nice thing when there was free capacity, but it should never, ever dictate what's best for the football program.

One of my friends can't make it, so I have an extra ticket for section 115. If anyone would like to buy this from me, contact me and we'll see if we can work it out.
Unlike my profile, I live in the Springfield MA area now, but will be in Chicago on Friday.

Re: UMass vs. Temple 2015
I mentioned this in another thread, since the game against Temple is the first (and hopefully more often in the future), should we create a travelling trophy now. There has to be a fraternity on campus willing to create something tasteful.
