UMass CAN beat them. All we can hope for is a chance.Zeke wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 10:24 pm Do people know that our first game will be against a team that just hit 18 -3's and did not resemble the team we beat here earlier this year? And VCU will only have to beat a 12/13 seed on Wed..

Re: 2023 Game 6: Arkansas State
When Brown was at Michigan the knock against him was that the game had passed him and his defense by and he couldn't or wouldn't change. Last season UMass ran a ball control offense that burned time and protected the defense by keeping it off the field. This season the offense has opened up with ...

Re: 2023 Recruiting
It is a chicken and egg situation. Win and they come, but it is hard to build wins (get a roster) when they are not coming.
Last year ended in a dumpster fire as far as I am concerned. I will not go so far as to say Frank is not the right guy, but if they don't stop the bleeding this year and ...

Re: KAEO Reggie (RJ) Luis
RJ did not leave because he was inpatient for a good team or the direction of the team. He was purchased by a “NIL agent” who convinced him he could make a certain $number. He planned to return when he signed with the collective. He simply got a phone call.
And this is the end of enjoyable ...

Re: 2023 Recruiting
If kids are going to leave after a year if they show any signs of being good, what is the point of recruiting freshmen?
Sometimes that will happen, but certainly not all of the time.
Yeah if the kids are bad they won't have better offers elsewhere but it seems like everyone good is looking ...

For a program like Umass, it may be smarter to only hunt upper classmen in the portal.

Re: KAEO Reggie (RJ) Luis
UMass just has 0 chance of building a program in these conditions.
We have had plenty of obstacles even before NIL and transferring without penalty. I think the days of having hope for "building" the program are gone.

This game will be mucked up. I am not sure if we will be favored on Saturday or not, but keep in mind boys and girls that it is very possible that we will be favored in every game until March . I think we are the best team in the A10, which is having a down year in terms of top end teams ...

Re: Game 10, 2022-23: vs Hofstra (Brooklyn, 12/11)
The most frustrating thing to me is his kid playing as many meaningful minutes as he does and that isn't even anything more than an annoyance. He doesn't hurt them out there, but he doesn't produce many stats either.
His son is also out of eligibility after this year. It's a very short term ...

Re: Game 9, 2022-23: UMass Lowell (12/8)
as you said, "embarrassing". The team is lost without Noah. Hope Rohsool is OK; at least there might be a chance with him. Perhaps they can play with just TJ and RJ as the backcourt. And that stuff about not starting Martin looked very true tonight.
The defense was the problem tonight. Lowell ...

Margin of victory is predictive, that's why they use it. It's the same at the pro level.stevemaz wrote: Tue Dec 06, 2022 9:29 am one thing i dont like about NET rankings or Kenpom is that they use margin of victory too much. Last night we won by 14 but that really was a 25-30 pt win.

Re: Coach Frank Martin
Well he can defend his son's playing time til hell freezes, but the numbers do not lie. Seventh in minutes played, twelth in both scoring (1.7ppq) and shooting percentage (.143) Brandon does get some rebounds, but his defense is not so great that it offsets his offensive liability. Why start games ...

I think Frank was really angry and didn't want to say or do anything he would regret... so he sat out the team huddle during the timeout.

Re: Expectations for 2022-23 Season
UMass is #140 in the Ken Pom ratings. They won the 3 games in Myrtle by a combined 11 points. The victories are great. I'm excited.
They're not the 35th best team in the country and knocking on the door of an at large bid based on what they have put on the court so far. Let's pump the brakes a bit.

The weak schedule is concerning , but that may be a PTSD byproduct of years of this program fucking up the weak schedule???
The schedule is weak in name only. We just played two (maybe three) legit teams in Myrtle, Towson is a tourney caliber team, and Hofstra and North Texas are more than ...
