Game 22, 2013-14: La Salle

Post by 69MG » Sat Feb 01, 2014 10:54 pm

What kind of a lineup do we want to see against LaSalle? They start 3 guards (6'0, 6'1, 6'2) plus Zach (6'11) and Wright (6'8). Zach and Wright are both brawny. Their 3 main bench players are 6'5, 6'3 and 6'6.

Put cannot stay with the third guard, but they don't have anyone who can guard Put either. Do we get really bold and start one of the freshmen? Samp is the only one bulky enough to guard Wright, but he looks like he is at half speed right now.

I don't have answers, only questions.

FWIW, Steve Lappas said he'd be in Amherst Wednesday calling the game.

Time to shake things up. Starters should be DG, Chaz, Trey, Maxie (if he can go) and Cady (although I also would not start him, but don't really trust TB in a starting role). Also, Chaz has to take over from the beginning, not wait until the last 10 minutes of the game.

First "must win" of the season?
I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.

I have never believed in the "must win" thing, but they certainly better win. My opinion, a loss Wednesday night could send the rest of the season into the dumper.

I actually thought Lappas did a pretty good job tonight, he made a lot of good points, even some points that sounded like he had read this board!

As far as the lineup goes, I just don't see DK changing it, if he hasn't done so yet, I think he's going stick with it. Although, with the guard heavy La Salle lineup it may happen. You could argue that Fordham started a guard heavy lineup, but then you could argue that Fordham is Fordham.

Lineup. Chaz. Trey. Putney. Maxie. Berg. I'm so sick and tired of cady not showing up for games. Dg played well but it's one game. Show us what you're made of. Samp. Work harder for it. You're a senior. This is arguably the only year we make the fucking tournament in years. switch it up for fuck sake. Let's go boys. Big fucking month.

You can't sit DG after the game he just had, yes it's just one game but what message does it send to a kid who played his heart out and played really well. Out of that lineup, Putney should sit, even without the missed layup he made numerous dumb mistakes, nevermind the bad shots...like the one where I think his 3 pt shot hit the top right hand corner of the backboard.

Only thing that's gonna change this starting lineup is an injury. These are DKs guys and he's gonna ride them.

Also, agree on the point above about DG. If anyone deserves to be dropped from the lineup it's Cady with Sampson in a close 2nd. I would really LOVE to see DK have a short leash with Cady. Frankly if you don't hustle and play all out you don't fit in with or belong on this team.

I hope some of the people posting about Cady's disinterest have the Saint Joe's game on DVR. Just because he had some bad trips doesn't mean it was a lack of effort. Watch some of his trips down the floor in transition. I have NEVER seen him run as hard down the floor as he did last night (particularly in the last few minutes he was still in the game). He was also very demonstrative after some momentum plays in the second half. Rewatch the tape folks.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well, it's broke. Here's my starting lineup for Wednesday:
If Maxie is healthy - Cady, Maxie, Clyde, Chaz, DG. If not, insert Put for Maxie. If Put gets pushed around too much by Wright, you have put in Samp.

IMO Samp is the weakest link in the current starting 5 right now. Offensively he doesn't have a good enough jumper to make up for his lack of athleticism. Defensively, I would call him slightly below average... Doesn't defend well on the ball and clearly isn't a good rebounder. I know it's probably a tough call for DK b/c he's a senior but reducing his playing time needs to happen.

A lot of his success early in the season was due to the fact that we weren't playing A-10 teams. None of the teams we played had experience playing against him/our team. These A-10 teams know what he's got...and know what we got in general. This is definitely going to be a grind the rest of the way. I'm really hoping we can go 10-6 in A-10 play. The VCU/Saint Louis games are going to be critical. I expect both of them will be ranked by the time they come to the Bill and wins against both of them could punch our ticket to the dance barring a complete meltdown in our next 4 games...

Have seen enough of this. My starting five would be... Davis, Gordon, Santee, Esho, and Bergantino. Let Williams, Putney, Carter, and Lalanne feel the pain for a bit, and let them know when they sub in there best not be one damn bit of sulking or subpar effort. Get your collective shit together and win some damn games.

^ My money is on DK not changing anything, at least not yet. If they lose to La Salle, then he might.

I don't know if we can afford to start TBerg over Cady. Cady's uneven rebounding effort is still much better than what TBerg gives us. Too many boards go right over his head, he doesn't look like an instinctive rebounder out there.
