Matt Vautour Appreciation Thread

Post by Quinn » Fri Apr 11, 2008 12:24 pm

I think this is a long overdue thread.

For years now, we've been reading about Umass sports happenings from Matt. He keeps us in the loop on everything going on in with Umass sports and glimpses into the national sports scene.

I make a living with various work I do related to college sports. I read hundreds are articles daily from sports writers from around the country. And my Umass fandom aside, one thing is crystal clear: Matt Vautour is one of my favorite writers in the country.

In addition to his writing and reporting, we'll also lucky enough to have him post on this site quite often. He's accessible. If you have a question for him, he'll get back to you. And he's even gone so far as to provide us with pictures in the past that he's allowed us to have some photoshop fun (this might include making a skydiving training photo look more like a scene from Deliverance).

So Matt, just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work you do...and great job! Keep up the good work!

Ditto and then some.

Matt does a great job and provides a lot of valuable information and publicity for the University.

Thanks, big guy. :D

I can see now how you could take that the wrong way. I meant that as a compliment. I can't remember if I've ever seen Matt give a "90%" guarantee on something only to be wrong in the end. He's a responsible journalist, unlike Mr. Forde.

I was just being snarky, shovel - I know you meant that as a complement. Forde didn't exactly cover himself in any kind of journalistic glory in the LSU episode. Tough thing is, he'll likely do it again in the future...

Matty V is indeed one of the good guys; hardly a UMass homer (which I like), but always insightful and fun to read. He and Marty Dobrow don't get the recognition they fully deserve.

And you did a great job catching Billy Buck's opening day first pitch. :)

See you at Fenway on Tuesday for the Beanpot final.

Matt's the best.

Not a homer at all (but still pro Umass) and very knowledgeable.

And I like that I can read all his articles on the net. Except for a few weeks each year, I'm in TN, FL, or for now, IL. Thanks Matt V, for all you do.

Speaking as an out-of-state fan, I very much appreciate your work and admittedly I look for it first when looking for newspaper (online) reports.

Rock on Matt!

Go UMass!

Matt Vautour is a bitter and insufferable hack. Just ask any of his colleagues who have to sit near him at the scorer's table. They'll tell you.

But he's our bitter and insufferable hack, so I suppose we'll keep him around a little while longer.

He's only bitter and insufferable because he's not the one with the microphone. :)
