Re: Billy Tindall
An absolutely great player. His record stood for 50 years until Pipkins broke it in 2017-2018 with 44. Then, as we know, Sool broke it again with 46 last year. His 41-point performance against Vermont on February 10, 1968 also sits third on program's the all-time single game scoring list.
Re: Billy Tindall
His record was set in regulation….no three point shots then either.
Pip and Sool each needed OT to pass him.

Re: Billy Tindall
I was @ Billy's 41 point game, and all home games 1965-1965, as a Team Manager.
The previous home game, Billy had not followed Jack's rule of not taking a last shot, half or game end, until a certain number of seconds left, 6 maybe; taking a shot with maybe 12 or 14 on the clock. Jack reminded Billy after the game and asked him what happened.
Billy said: "Coach, I couldn't see the shot clock." (small ones in the Cage off to corner and I recall in the balcony.
The following morning, Jack took Billy into Amherst to have his eyes checked out. He needed glasses and was fitted with contacts.
The first game with the contacts...41 points...
I knew Billy well then and we occasionally talked in recent years.
When Pipkins got his 44, postgame, I got Pipkins and called Billy so they could talk about it on my phone. They had a long conversation and at a later game, Billy was in and they got together to talk in person.
Maybe some more good memories later...

I came here to ask that exact question. That's an incredible performance regardless, and even more impressive when you consider it was in regulation with no 3's. A UMass legend, may he rest in peace.LS71 wrote: Sun Jun 29, 2025 11:02 pm His record was set in regulation….no three point shots then either.

Anyone seen an obituary online? I did a quick search and didn't find his.

Re: Billy Tindall
Funeral was yesterday in Frederick, MD.
Teammate Dennis Chapman lives only 40 minutes from there, but apparently was unaware of the arrangements, as none of us have found an Obit yet.
No idea if any family members looked at his phone contacts. There must have been some among teammates, including me.
I may share a few more stories...

All New England Basketball Team 1967
Willy Wolters (BC), Steve Adelman (BC), Jimmy Walker (Providence) and Billy Tindall. Coach is Bob Cousy who was BC coach.
I don't know if a 5th player was named, but I would not hesitate to name my EHS Classmate/friend Ed Siudut (Holy Cross).
