I wish him well and he’s getting a nice 800k buyout. I don’t feel the least bit bad for him.
It is so UMass! The Twitter group acts like Brown was treated like that squirrel Peanut and euthanized with his head cut off! Brown will be out at his Cape house golfing by Friday.
With only 2 games left, what did UMass gain by letting him go now instead of 12/1?
Seems like a lot of schools are doing it in season right now. Just a guess, but they want to get a jump on the hiring process.

This could have been handled in a much more dignified manner, but RB is a classless individual.

I don’t get the timing either. Are there people who they expect in Athens this Saturday? Is there going to be a
“Mass” Exodus of ‘Dawgs….?

Coaches leave before Bowl Games…….but I don’t see UM at that level.

Then be the bigger man and just walk away. The program is at its lowest point (of which there have been many). I come here for football news and to chat about the program, not to scroll past your endless horseshit.

Go UMass, let's get this hire right for once.

FWIW two other coaches got canned today as well: Poggi at Charlotte and Herman at FIU. So we're not the only program in this spot.
They're playing MACsketball. We love that MACsketball.

Regardless of what other schools do, firing him with two games to do is classless.

Why not announce that he won’t be back but let him finish the season?

That way they can still begin the hiring process. They’re not interviewing before December no matter what.

That said, had that field goal been made, DB would be finishing the season.

I didn't fire him, so don't jump in my shit about Brown! Just tried to answer your question. I give two fucks about a rich 70-year-old man who loses his job with a huge payout. When did FBS football ever have class.

Dennis (who wont see this since I am on ignore) really needs to chill out. LS71 asks for a little respect, and Angry Dennis responds predictably. No, it is clear you don’t give two fucks. Very clear.

Agree. And it was a fairly cold press release, too. One time hero becomes disposable. Yet another example of why this school was never suited for FBS.

Jeez…no need to jump ugly with me.

This is not about other schools or FBS. It’s about UMass doing the the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.

Couldn't they have made an announcement that Don would not be back next year and let him finish out the season? That way they could start the coaching search right away and perhaps have the new coach in place shortly after the season ended. That way he could meet with the players, and he could start the recruiting process pretty quickly.

I don't disagree with the firing, but more in the way it was handled. The Gazette article's comment about the players finding out on social media before Don could tell them shows us just how atrocious this was.

I agree with you & LS on this. Maybe the players would of rallied around him and ended on a good note and Don could have ended his time at UMass and likely his coaching career with a little dignity instead of the with the phoney press release comments. I'm sure he probably knew it was coming but let him go out graciously, he earned it. And let his players support him
