Yup, pretty much as predicted/feared on this board by many. So little continuity of players as they are increasingly simply mercenaries, not students.

Frank won't be here long with all this transfer stuff now being easier. Why bother even recruiting, just pick your roster from the portal every year. The disconnect continues...

The horse is out of the barn now unfortunately. The only way to fix this is to require contractual obligations. These college players actually have it better than the pros do now. They don't even need to play a full season, they can leave in December and jump right on another roster and start playing immediately.

At least the pros are bound by contract. They have to be traded or cut until their contract expires.


A fucking 19 year old kid is no where near mature enough to handle a big bank account, going to class, and deal with a bunch of vultures trying to pick them off for another school.


This whole thing is going down a dark, dark path.

"Protect Our Breasts" is a leader for UMass Gives - not kidding - with 112 gifts. Hoops has 7. The women's team is last of all sports with one.

I drove two hours each way this past year very few times to watch one-and-gone players. Lord knows where we are headed.

These rules have been in place since December, they aren't new. The change that IS good is that grad transfers must abide by the portal dates as well.

For example - You get a player here like RJ Luis, and he has a really good November, then Georgetown (again for example) loses their 3/4 to a season ending injury. They can pick RJ right off the roster with no penalty to them or the player and he can play immediately. Sorry UMC, your collective dollars don't mean shit any more.

I hate the transfer rules. Players should be allowed to transfering and play right away if the head coach leaves.
Grad transfers should also be allowed to play right away.

If a player transfers to a new institution. but their coach remains, player should have to sit out one year.

Also. players should become employees and not be students. If a player wants a degree, they can use their NIL money to pay for their tuition and other school related expenses.

I mean...yeah. But why can't we pluck as well? It's more of a death sentence for the low majors than anything else. The days of seeing a guy putting up 19 PPG at a low major and returning to that school the next year are over. And not every 19 PPG low major player is the same. Some might be ready for a P6 school, some might be ready for a school like Umass. There's so many players out there and 13 scholarships to fill. At this point it's more about whether you trust Frank to adapt and if you trust his eye for talent, and of course the obvious, of coaching said talent once they get here. If you do, then we'll be fine. If you don't trust Frank to adapt and coach, then we won't.

Hate to break the news to you Nat but Umass has just become a low major. We weren't plucking players anyways, you think it is going to be easier as a MAC team?

I'd rather say we are a high mid-major team in a mid major world. With Frank Martin and his great staff, we'll be fighters and hopefully doing well. However it is up to YOU guys to support the Massachusetts Collective for players and the Court Club for the coaches, facilities and student athletes!

This is just plain awful. Like Eldon said they need to make these kids sign a contract for x amount of seasons. Only way to slow down this mess.

We've essentially done that with payment schedules, clawbacks, etc and will continue to trend that way and keep a pulse on the changes.
