NCAA Tournament - 2023

Post by InnervisionsUMASS » Fri Mar 17, 2023 12:56 pm

Surprised we didn't have a thread going... some good upsets yesterday. X is on the ropes right now.

Lappas is calling the MSU-USC game and just had a PERFECT opportunity to tell the story of how he found Lasme, but didn't do it. Too bad.

Hard to believe the controlled + methodical manner St Mary's has dispatched VCU. Was VCU as A10 Conference winner and tournament winner seeded to low or is Conference needing overall improvement?

The VCU game left me with the realization that UMass is at the bottom of a lousy conference. Not good.....

I was scratching my head wondering why other than VCU...Dayton's withdrawal from the post season notwithstanding....only Duquesne is in the post season but not the NIT. The VCU is summarily sent packing.

Sucks to be the A-10 right now.

Go Ricky P!

I picked VCU in my free bracket for being hopeful in the A10 . But I picked St Mary's when I placed my bet. The A10 is not looking good, and our season looks even worse.

Watching Iona/UConn, Hurley way out of the box and on the court. Will Ricky P pull it out again? Haha

#16 Fairleigh Dickinson takes down #1 Purdue. First year coach Anderson coming up from D2 St. Thomas Aquinas and bringing three of his players with him. 2 of those previous D2 players led FDU in scoring. Anderson a few days ago even wanted Purdue to see him tell his team, " the more I see them, the more I believe we can beat them." Congrats FDU.

Rashaan Holloway’s brother Mike is a graduate assistant on FDU.

Well our status is a near bottom feeder in a near bottom league. My question is can we attract and retain quality athletes into both a low performing program and conference, topped by a screamer/old school coach?

NIL says no. They all want TV and wins to build their brand.

Unfortunately, there is no cache playing for a non P5 school and now with the Portal and paying players, UMASS is not on the radar of the 3 and 4 star players we usually get

On this year's roster we had all 4 star and 3 star guys except I think Weeks, who was a 2. Evidently, they were just the wrong guys..

I watched a lot of games at MGM over the past few days and will be there again today.. Go FAU.. my sleeper..

One of the biggest things i noticed is the ridiculous amount of times guys fall down to draw foul calls when they were not even touched or barely touched. Even that behomoth on UConn did it once when i dont think there are 5 guys in the NCAA who could knock him down.. NCAA needs to step in and start calling techs or kicking guys out of games for multiple offenses.

Thought UK looked really good last night. Haven’t watched them since they lost to MSU early in the season but they’ve come a long way. Looked like one of the better coached Cal UK teams I’ve seen in a while. If their PG comes back they could make run.

FDU from the NEC knocked off Perdue, I think we can find 8-10 basketball players who can play the way FM wants to play and field a competitive team. I agree the NIL has forever changed the type of player we will be getting going forward. Player development and scouting talent will be key to the success of any non P5 team going forward. Of course once a player develops they are susceptible to transfer for $$$. But that’s the world we live in these days, it’s either adapt and compete or stay the course and fail. I give the The Massachusetts Collective credit they are fighting to develop a program, they even got my cheap self to join.

Cooley is looking at Georgetown because he is concerned Providence can’t develop a strong NIL program. I read Mike Brey left ND because he didn’t feel they had the overall support to continue to compete at a high level.

Remember when Mount Holloway’s brother was on FDU? They played UMass at the Bill in 2018. FWIW…I think UMass won.
