New thread now that it's being widely reported by reputable sources.

Welcome to Frank Martin and his family!

Indeed, I'm excited for it. I loved how hard his South Carolina teams played. 'Refuse to lose' culture is back.

Welcome Coach. Can picture the scenario of Coach Martin and Coach Brown drinking PBR at the Spoke. At least the old version of the Spoke. Some of the other lunch pail coaches too.

Posted this in the search thread but it fits better here:

So where does the staff go from here? I still think Ricky is in play to stay, but hiring a seasoned coach like Martin might change that train of thought.

Either way, I assume some sort of mix between people he has worked with before and people with connections here in MA? Or does he himself have enough connections here that he doesn't need do hire that type of an assistant?

Decent hire and I’m cautiously optimistic given the parallels to Steve Lappas who had a similar profile coming here.I would have liked Schmidt more and I would have liked some indication that we interviewed and considered minority candidates (has Bamford EVER hired a minority head coach in any sport?! All
I’m seeing in the major sports, mens and womens, is a bunch of white males. This is a big problem) but here’s to hoping Frank Martin brings us back to the dance, and soon!

Always a possibility of some of Frank's players wanting to come with him. SC's roster:

Their recruiting situation:

One guy to watch is Erik Stevenson. He has played four already, at three stops, but he played for Frank this season and has put his name into the Portal. He played with Noah at Wichita State in 2019-20.

Isn't Martin the son of Cuban exiles/immigrants? I think he is a pretty diverse coach with a pretty diverse background.

He is a Cuban American and I believe his parents were exiles. The Lappas comp doesn't really hold up either-Lappas never made it out of the second round of the tournament while Martin has an elite 8 and a final 4 on his resume, with 2 different schools.

I am stoked. I cannot wait for the first game of the ‘22-‘23 season. URI made a splash with Archie and we made a bigger one. We have a P5 level coach.

Im glad for both schools.. this hire is at least on par or better than the Miller hire.. UMass and URI both being good is a good thing.
