Chaz as (National, A10) Player of the Year

Post by HoopHead » Wed Dec 11, 2013 6:53 pm

A bit optimistic, but Chaz is getting a mention as #4 as National Player of the Year by Parrish:

He's also mentioned as possible A10 POY, so why not run a thread for those items and their discussion...

Thoughts?

I think Chaz's prospects are directly tied to the team. If the team gets a 1 or 2 seed to the tournament then he has a really good shot. If not, I don't think he has a shot. UMass being ranked relly helps, though. He will get way more attention as long as UMass is ranked.

this ^. And unfortunately if we lose 1 game...1 single game of non division play, we will not be ranked.

I don't agree with that at all. So you're saying if we win one game out of conference and then win the next five in a row we won't be ranked? I agree after losing one we would slip out, but I don't see how we wouldn't get back in if we went on a win streak again.

If we lost to Ohio, FST or Providence we are not ranked. Then we go all conference. We dont play GW, Dayton, St. Louis or VCU until the last stretch. How do we get back to rankings?

You win other games. Other teams lose games. We moved up without even playing a game and moved down in one poll after winning 2 games. We'll be fine and get back in if we lose one of the games to Ohio, FSU (not FST) or Providence. I'd also make the argument that if we lost to FSU or Providence, we might not leave the rankings.

You don't need to be ranked in the top 25 to make the tourney. Being ranked or not does not define your season.

I think A-10 POY is likely should he continue his high level of play. It's been extremely fun to watch

Granted I will be disappointed if we aren't undefeated going into A10 play, but if we do happen to lose 1 game, I think we are still in great shape.

This is the toughest ooc schedule DK has ever faced, and we have several signature wins. We have already gained some national attention, which certainly helps our cause come selection Sunday.

Don't count out Cady either. I think they will both end up on A10 first team, and both have a really good shot at A10 POY.

Your back is safe.

All-America is realistic, and A10 POY.

I'd be thrilled to death to see Chz make All-America, even if it's 3rd team.

That, and making a THIRD All-A10 First Team, would be incredible.

I'd bet that even though it would be a great honor for Chaz, if you asked him, he's more likely to say he wants his team to go deep into the tourney. I think he realizes that if the team does well, he'll do well. Haven't seen a kid that really just wants to win so bad like him in a while

The last A10 player to win National POTY (1 year after David West) shared a great many attributes with our #3.
