I just saw that from a link that was put on Facebook. At least he isn't a current player.

that sucks, but he has had a lot of chances, wonder if he gets the boot? i would assume so. i hope he is close to getting a degree and will put it to use to offer a good future for his son.

Interesting that he was in Troy when he should be on campus. Binghamton is a little over 2 hours from Troy. I guess he could have made a quick trip to Troy to score.

Sad really...

While we all remember this quote...
Dan Dugan wrote:"I'm here with the opportunity to tear the nation up real quick and get out of here in one year or two years," Mayben said. "(Making the NBA) is my main goal. I plan on getting my diploma, but I'm not going to lie - getting my diploma is second. An early exit is not too far from my mind because I have to do what I have to do to take care of my family."
...in light of this news, this one seems prophetic:
"I'm ready to put (the past) behind me," he said. "I don't think about it. I'm Tiki Mayben and I'm the UMass point guard, and that's all I care about right now. I know I could be great, or I could be nothing. It's just a matter of what I want for myself.

I used to go back to Milford during the week from time to time while I was in school, and that is over an hour away from Amherst. Granted, I wasn't carrying or dealing drugs... sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo yeah.

Too bad to hear this... kid had talent too.

That's really too bad. I was hoping things would work out for him for his sake. . . to hear that is terrible.

I wonder how much of his horrible choices stems from his unrealistic NBA expectations and the inevitable disappointment...and how much of it is the other way around. By the way, do you remember when he first arrived he referred to himself as a "street pharmacist" or something like that on his facebook or myspace page. So maybe that was his true identity.

Still, many of us will never forget the invisible pass to Stephane Lasme. I'll say it again--what a shame.

When I saw the link on the front page of ESPN.com, I knew it was Tiki ... what other Binghamton guard/player would make a headline?

This isn't going to go over well. The program is already heavily criticized. I remember hearing how DJ Rivera was blackballed from the all conference team because of binghamton's recruting practices. Here's a NYT piece about the coach and program.

Thats funny I thought the same thing.

I always felt like CLowe was a more complete player from the moment he stepped on campus, obvious statement but it needs repeating since Mayben was so highly touted.

A play I will always remember alla Tiki. Tiki has the ball at the top of the key and is dribbling left. I forget who is in right corner makes a break baseline for the basket and should have been a conventional alley oop dunk for two. But nooo Tiki decides to pass the ball behind his back with his left hand and the ball ricochets off the backboard and ends up at midcourt as a turnover. He earned shome serious bench time for that decision. Never have seen anything like it before or after.
