UMass is mentioned on the Maddow show:

"Rachel Maddow highlights the efforts by Big Ten schools and others to join forces in a "mutual defense compact" against Donald Trump's attacks on higher education"

Harvard has an endowment of $52 billion. These crocodile tears from these universities is something else.

I'm beginning to check in on Hustle Belt...looking for suggestions for other sites, now that UMass is part of the MAC. Thanks
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

This will be a loss for many of us who go to games on a regular basis.

The end of McMurphy's Uptown Tavern? It appears so! The building they occupy & share with the now closed Amherst Typewriter Shop is inline for demolition to make way for a new 2 story mixed use building. Over 4 years ago this was proposed, looks like it will now move fwd.

^ You almost threw a Joni Mitchell at us. She wasn't fond of parking lots.

Just won’t be the same. That and the old Charlie’s were our spots in the early 2000s, so many great memories. Call me a curmudgeon but I love old buildings in beautiful downtown areas like Amherst. Like Scoop said, just another boring new cookie cutter building will go up in its place.

^ We used to go to Charlie's before every BB game. It was charming in a rustic sort of way, and it was easy because of the parking. I also miss Rafters because of the free popcorn and $5.95 pitchers of Labatt's Blue.

You people don't even know about the really great places that are now history. The Drake. Mike's in north Amherst. Rahar's in Northhampton. And the Italian place on route 9 that had a notell motel connected to it. And Ma's on route 9 that became a MacDonalds. That's all my old brain can remember.

The Italian place was the Aqua Vitae. I think it closed around 2007. I remember the Chianti bottles with candles in them. The Harp (formerly Mike's) isn't too bad, but the prices are a lot higher than they were when it was Mike's. Of course, that was many moons ago when I was a student.
