Re: McGuirk Upgrade
No mention of any improvements or expansion of McGuirk.
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
College fans, consistently say that we/UMass went FBS trying to cut corners with an inferior football stadium. These are fans from all over, P5, G5, and locally as Holy Cross. That regional and especially in New England people do not care about college football, they only care about pro sports.UMassNet15 wrote:The low bond rate would be great if we weren't already at the max of our borrowing capacity.Steve81 wrote: Know the stadium expansion and indoor practice facility will happen some day, but the time should be now, especially with low bound rates.
Well both are not true, how do you explain BC getting a new indoor facility to replace their bubble. More importantly how do you explain smaller colleges in New England building an indoor practice facility, Holy Cross or a 25 Million dollar stadium expansion with suites, University of New Hampshire.
Hear soft rumors about an indoor practice facility and stadium expansion. My response to people saying UMass went FBS on the cheap is to say we've spent around 70 Million in the past 5 years and borrowed around 50 Million. That we have expansion plans and the price tag could be as high as 40 Million. Again this stuff is from soft rumors and nothing factual backing it up, except the stadium expansion boards.
Where there is a will there is a way, just hope the right people have the will and it happens sooner than later.
This is my favorite quote from the "UMass Hype Train has left the station" thread on the AAC board.

Seeing two stadiums go up at UCF and Houston, I can only say that when it does happen your campus and alumni will feel a great sense of pride (as they should).
I can't wait for Temple to finally break ground on the stadium. There is a feeling of ownership that makes it special.
UMass has a lot of potential. After that scare you gave the Owls last year, I hope to see you guys climb your way up the ladder to being a good program.
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

Texas high school stadiums. Money is no object here. This new stadium is only 7 miles from the Allen High School stadium. The latest. Dallas Morning News.

Any idea why there were NO, I mean none, zero, zippo, port potties on the home side at McGuirk for the FIU game?
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Used one, believe it was under section 15, but had to look for them. Went all the way to section 20 and worked back the other way till, success.

Big boy football with Port-a-Potties. I wonder how many other FBS teams don't have regular bathrooms in their stadiums? Don't get me wrong, I support the program and have been to almost every FBS home game, but McGuitk is the pits when it comes to creature comforts. I love the Gillette games and it's only an hour from my house.

They moved the Portas too on the home side. They used to be under 19/20 and for some reason moved them to 15 or so.. it was a waste of time walking back and forth to find them... no signage at all.

I went to the portas under 15. But had I known they were there, I wouldn't have walked to 20 first. Signage is not a hard thing to do. Certainly a lot easier for the U to put together than individuals buying a printer just to print out a parking pass.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Stadium is a joke and so is the atmosphere. Hopefully wins help. I don't know how the AAC would consider us in that crap hole. No one goes and would be by far the smallest crappoest stadium in the conference. Need this big12 expansion to shake out asap so see if AAC is going to have any openings. Then maybe our pitch will show us what improvements can be done to the stadium
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
The students leaving after the 1st quarter was far worse than griping about the stadium. I have always thought we were fortunate that not only was Gillette available for our 1A move, but we also had a campus stadium, not just stands on the side of a field, but a stadium to work with. The university has the complete undersides of the stands and the south end to make bathrooms, concessions, gate entries, visitor locker rooms, and end zone stands. They can do it in stages or all at once. I don't think we need to rip down McGuirk, and this isn't because of nostalgia, but I think they can do a good job with it.
For those of you on the home (east) side, is there access to bathrooms by the visitor locker rooms? If you are on the press box side, it's fairly close.

Oh my god, they love state schools out here.
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
I have been reading the CSNbbs board a lot and all I can say is that Umass is not even an afterthought.
I know it is only a fan board, but when talking about adding teams not one person even hints to Amherst, and when a Umass person posts it is met with A LOT of laughter. The stadium needs to go - either load it with TNT and drop it, or get a plan in place to significantly upgrade it AND get a shovel in the ground NOW to prove we are really doing it.
Until that happens, Umass is not getting invited to ANYTHING....
UMass is the red-headed step child of FBS football right now - and winning games is not going to be enough - I am usually not a proponent of this, but Build it and they will come - eventually.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Big10land I agree, I would be fine with the improvements that you say but idk if that's enough for AAC. The students are a joke for leaving after first quarter. It's embarrassing. Although I am leaning to Agree with eldon. Without a major plan and starting it now, we have 0 shot at AAC. Idc what they say on that board tho because ever Memphis fan would shit on other ppl like uconn or UCF about big 12 but boom Memphis was toast and other teams will worse facilities and sponsors are still in. I think UMass has a shot for sure. Our stadium for football is what puts us very far behind. Bball facilities would be maybe the best in AAC and or football training is very good for that conference but it's the fan support and stadium that isn't cutting it. If only one spot is available I don't feel good about UMass chances(BYU, Houston being added). But if 3 spots available (adding BYU Houston uconn and Cindy then we have a pretty solid chance because of replacing uconn plus our arguement if it was only 1 spot. Big12 needs to shake out soon
