Banks' father was in the stands for this game, so he obviously wanted to ball out for his family, and he must have had some additional connection with the Coastal coach. They showed some footage of Banks and the coach chatting each other up pregame.

The announcers said Gray (Coastal Carolina HC) was Bank's head coach for a year at Western Carolina, before going to UMBC.

Banks played his ass off. For a game that is supposedly "meaningless" he wanted to win really bad and did everything he could to try and make that happen. The CCU coach gave him a big hug in the handshake line and had some encouraging words for him.
Kid is one of the better perimeter players we've had here in quite a while. Somehow they have to figure out a way to keep him & K'Jei on the floor together longer to have 2 good perimeter options. But Marcus has been a joy to watch this year, too bad he's only here for 1.
Yes and yes. I love these two guys. Parker has another year of eligibility, but will probably leave because he's one of Frank's top hate targets. I really don't understand why Frank recruited him if he hates the way he plays. I'm glad we have him now though and hope he sticks around.

Pretty sure the Coastal coach was Banks high school coach

Another thrilling game. Even though we’ve lost a lot of these games, I have enjoyed watching them As a pure spectator it’s been a very entertaining season. As a fan I’m frustrated.

Came here to post something like this, and I wrestle with it. On the one hand, he takes what I consider to be his best roster at UMass, and underachieves. On the other hand, he's a very good recruiter and these guys wouldn't be here if he wasn't the coach. So do I want a guy like Frank or DK that is a below average coach but an above average recruiter, or do I want a guy that might not get the best athletes but can draw up plays and schemes, be an effective teacher/motivator, and has a great feel for the flow of the game? I don't know. It would be nice to have a coach that can do both.
Take the later. We have the facilities and the $$ to overcome any recruiting shortcomings.
Agree. People take more notice of teams that overachieve and want to be part of it.

How many do you think will actually come back?
3, maybe 4?

I'm still 100% focused on this season, but since you asked, there will be a lot of new faces next year again with transfers and players exhausting their eligibility (Banks, Bettiol, Brown, DHS, Placide). For returners, I'm going to go with Carbuccia, Luka (he seems to be committed, his Wilbraham Monson Academy coach is a UMass guy, and I'm not sure he'll get significantly better offers), and Jayden would be the guys I would put money on staying.

The next group of maybes, but who the hell knows are Parker (if he thinks we can win and believes in what Frank is doing), Wimbley (his play has been sub par for the incoming hype, but maybe he gets big time offers), Bilal Osman and CJ Outlaw (haven't played, who knows).

Probably gone: Clerc. Frank says he loves to play from the inside out, and loves to have big men on the roster, but when they get here he treats them like dirt (Wildens Levesque, Malek Abdelgowad). Clerc is right near the top of that list.

Juice, wasn't trying to stir the pot, just that there's so much movement now, 5 out of eligibility, & portal moves, it seems its always gonna be a reset.

Yeah, I gotcha. It's interesting to think about and we don't have a midweek game to discuss, so might as well start speculating.

I love these quotes from coach Frank:
“We got guys that can score,” he said. “That’s not the issue with our team…Our fours and fives today, they didn’t score for us. If they would’ve scored, we win the game easy. They didn’t score. We miss free throws. Our problem is not the ability to put points on the board...”
So...what is it? If scoring is not the issue, but the issue is that a couple of guys didn't score, and if they had you'd win the game easy, then what's the problem? Sounds like the problem was lack of scoring, but he's saying that's not the problem? I'm not following the message there.

^He’s basically blaming the loss on Bettiol. It’s refreshing these days to see coaches who, when interviewed, stand up for their team and take responsibility themselves, saying the fault isn’t on the players, but that they should have done a better job coaching. That’s what a true players’ coach looks like: someone who supports their players and their team. Frank is the opposite.

I remember a grown man on here falling to his knees in a Dunkin’ Donuts the last time I called Frank a clown, but I’ll say it again.. Frank Martin is a clown.

While Frank is quick to call out players - the one he never criticize s is Carbuccia. He takes 4 3 pointers in the game despite shooting 16.7 from 3, but is never criticized.

Kinda glad I didn't do the 9 hour RT for a loss, even though there was plenty of "bonus" hoops. Wouldn't mind hitting some MAC games next year if there's some sort of Ohio road swing though.

Question is how many kids will come back if (should be when) FM is fired at the end of the season

At the Sports Luncheon today someone asked him to comment on Danny. He was generally fair in his assessment. We all know what Danny does well, but Frank did comment that the free throw shooting was 'in his head", not in technique. I know there are some folks out there, myself included, that think his form is not very good. He also said that Danny tends to get lost when his man doesn't have the ball and makes cuts. Somehow, he said that Danny is a better 3 point shooter than his stats show. I call BS on that one. He couldn't shoot threes in high school and he can't shoot them here.
