...I give Frank shit when they lose or struggle against bad teams, so I will give him credit when they beat a solid team like FSU.
I listened on the radio while doing some stuff around the house, so I didn't get a real great sense of what exactly was going on, but I still don't like his in-game coaching and the non-coaching screaming is pathetic. I heard plenty of his yelling in the background on the radio. What I will say, and what others have said, is that he is probably a really good "practice coach". He's getting these guys ready and when they click on the court, it looks pretty impressive.
Basketball is a game of runs so I can't get too upset, but they're still prone to giving up way too many big runs and struggle to close out games, which I put on Frank's plate. With all that said, great win for the team, and credit to Frank for getting them ready.

Great win for the guys yesterday, on top of the BC win earlier in the week. "Belief" is a powerful thing, and I think after beating two ACC programs they will (rightly) head into the MAC season believing that they can win every game. They can now visualize what it takes to do it.
Highly unlikely they sustain 55% on 3 point FGs so water will find its level there, but with the strong post presence of DHS and Bettiol, and even Clerc emerging a bit, I think they can get some reliable points in the paint and hopefully give the outside shooters clean looks.
Nice to see improved finish on layups, especially for and-1s. And definitely good to see the free throws improve.
On to MAC play with 8 wins in our pocket.

2 great wins over those ACC teams. Both games saw big coaching challenges with 4 UMass players having 4 fouls. Coach did well managing that situation, which could contribute to those late comebacks by the opposition.

The screaming really seems to be his emotional state during a game. He screams good things as well as bad during the games. He has no filter or understanding of proximity to people during these moments he is screaming. It's like a switch gets flipped and he just starts yelling. It is not appealing for sure. It is a little further than Cal went, but not by much. I think Frank has a much bigger booming voice that makes it worse.

How refreshing to see our 3 pt shooting vastly improved. 54% yesterday. A lot of great looks from the offense. These guys bought into the family aspect. Sharing the ball encouraging each other. Lots to be happy about.

Cal did scream a lot, and even moreso in practice. Everyone needs to chill about Frank's screaming. You don't have to like it and there are times when I don't like it, but that's who he is and that's who he has always been. There will be players who thought they could take it when they signed on with Frank and realize later it's not for them and they leave. In this day of NIL and transfers, players leave for many reasons so players leaving because of the yelling has less impact than it did 5 years ago.

Yeah, I agree. He's so great in interviews, pressers, personal interactions, etc. Something happens when the game starts that flips a switch for sure. That's competitive fire, but also a bit of psycho. When they're winning and he has players that respond it's one thing, but when they're losing and players don't respond, it goes sideways quickly (see last season).

Hoping for a good performance today... not going to be easy. I think we find out a lot about the boys today.
Yo IV, what did we learn about the boys? Let's go!!!
That they can play well. Loved it!

No mention of the big win vs FSU in the Gazette. I know they weren't going to send someone down to Florida to cover it, but they could have had a reporter watch it on TV and do a write up, or at least just run the AP recap.
On the flip side, the guys at the Collegian and WMUA are doing a terrific job. The Collegian had multiple stories up quickly, and WMUA did a podcast basically right after the game.

It’d be like us playing at the Garden. I get Tallahassee to Miami is a hike but still in the same state and I’m sure thousands of fsu alumni in the Miami area. I’d consider it a road game for UMass.
Miami is a little over six hours from Tallahassee. FSU has fans for sure. Florida is fairly territorial for its fandom. It was a neutral site more like if we played in Philadelphia.
Distance more like us playing in Hamilton Ontario.
Same state with an established alumni base was my point. I've been to Florida many, many times (younger brother also went to FSU), I get how big the state is guys

I got my MBA, immediately after UM.
Accelerated a two-year program with trimesters into a 12 mo/4 trimester degree, including comprehensive Written & major specific Oral exams. Aced it all, then got my sheepskin handed to me by Red Barber.
Never been back to Gainesville w no plans to go there.
Would rather fly to UM than drive to Gainesville from Naples. Better to drive to Key West, stopping in Key Largo to go fishing with Bogart.
