Re: Around the A10, 2024-2025
The 2024 A10 championship game in Brooklyn between VCU and Duquesne had 7,805 in attendance, 2023 they had 8,162 for VCU and Dayton. The MAC championship had 7,099 in attendance this year, 7,955 in 2024, and 8,375 in 2023.
So attendance for the MAC championship was less than the A10 this year, but prior years it had been slightly more. I wonder how UMass would draw if they got to the finals. Washington DC isn't exactly close to Amherst, but Cleveland feels so much farther away.

It’s a 10 hour car ride to Cleveland from western MA. Not many direct flights from Hartford to Cleveland. From Boston to Cleveland there are more and it is about an hour and half. My son lives out there. Have down the trip many times.Juice Stand wrote: Mon Mar 17, 2025 2:32 pm The 2024 A10 championship game in Brooklyn between VCU and Duquesne had 7,805 in attendance, 2023 they had 8,162 for VCU and Dayton. Nope. There is an A10 team in the NCAA Tournament... the deeper the run, the more $ we get from the Tournament with the conference revenue split. Worth keeping an eye on!

Kent State is dominating the Bonnies, up 20, against a team that went 2-0’against us
We all want to win but I think we’re going to be in for a surprise in the MAC

Does Kent St. basketball have NIL? If we're in for a surprise in the MAC, maybe NIL is not doing us any good.inthescoop wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 7:39 pm Kent State is dominating the Bonnies, up 20, against a team that went 2-0’against us

Re: Around the A10, 2024-2025
Maybe. Notable passion aside, there is very little evidence to suggest NIL has delivered a positive ROI to UMass. None. I understand that makes some of us life-long supporters negative fans, but it is the reality if we go by the new standard. Under Frank/NIL, we are 47-47, zero post season, and we’ve seen good players replaced by mediocre ones. “Retention” (the new bizarre measure) resulted in a shitty 20 loss season. The response to this reality check is that we have not poured enough of our money into an enterprise that hasn’t produced. Tough sale, but thankfully I’m not making it.

Kent State did not make the championship game in the MAC tourney. Like us last year, Miami did not receive a NIT bid.inthescoop wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 7:39 pm Kent State is dominating the Bonnies, up 20, against a team that went 2-0’against us

With us next year, there should be 6 good teams, but 6 shitty teams. We are going to need to recruit and play well in the MAC against those good teams.
We are going to need to have a good out of conference schedule or we could be ignored for the NIT.
From poster Cleveland on the MAC csnbbs board.
https://csnbbs.com/thread-1008009.htmlI would venture to say Kent was easily the best team in the MAC in non-conference, pre-injury. But Akron and Miami - as the MAC standings prove - leapfrogged Kent in terms of improvement over the course of league play.
But only Akron jumped Kent in the metrics. Can't deny Kent's pre-season work just as you can't deny Miami's MAC body of work both in the MAC and via 3 wins over Kent.
I still say, Miami beating Kent 3 times should have shown up in the metrics. The fact it did not, by a wide margin, shows ON PAPER Miami's overall resume was weak.
At the same time Kent lost 5 games to Miami and Akron, and still was the second-best team in the MAC by metrics. By a solid margin. Can't deny that, either.
If the NIT Selection Committee actually saw the two teams in person, on the court, they may have actually selected Miami, ... or both.

Re: Around the A10, 2024-2025
I thoroughly enjoyed watching Kent St going into Olean and beating the snot out of St Bonaventure. There is definitely some good basketball being played and coached at the top of the MAC. Unfortunately the bottom is so bad that it drags down everybody's computer rankings. But I'm coming around on this idea that the top 3 or 4 teams in the MAC are really quite good.
So what does success look like next season? A lot of us, probably myself included, thought that we should go in and win right away. Now that I've watched some more MAC basketball, I think I've adjusted that. We need to come in and compete for a top 3 spot. If we have a season like Kent St did this year (>20 wins, >.500 in conference, MAC semi-finals, NIT bid and win), I'll be very satisfied with that result. We're going to have a target on our backs next year as the new kids, so having a season like that would be a solid first year and something to build on. If we end up in 5th or 6th place, something like that, then we're in big trouble as a program. Big trouble.

A-10 is 0-2 in the NIT so far.
In addition to Akron beating up on the Bonnie’s, DD’s Arkansas St.team led from wire to wire to crush St.Louis 103-78. DD had 12 points and 2 rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.

Solid post Juice Stand. Would enjoy Kent State knocking off Stanford. As still remember Stanford beating us in the NIT.
