Man looking back, that team was loaded. Loved the brown to Herndon alley oops. This was my first year of me becoming a huge umass hoops fan with both my parents being alums. I was eleven years old at the time.

The addition of Herndon mid-season as a sophomore made this team complete as he could do it all at 6’3” including winning the tipoff. I remember the game I got hooked on will the thrill was against WVU when I was a sophomore. Me and my Umass friends made the trek to the cage during winter session and watched Will put on a dunkfest. Every game after that was a must see because of the addition of Herndon. He got so much press for his dunks and 43” vertical that the Boston Globe ran a front page sports picture of him dunking the ball on Feb 22, 1991 with an accompanying story about him and other local dunkers.

Chaney would make the mistake of calling a time out and the deafening roar intensified to the point of paint chips snowing down from the ceiling as the scoreboard swayed back and forth….. all of this flowed in perfect harmony as it had so many times before with this beloved, historic band of overachievers and their out of their minds fans while the band complimented the moment with another blaring rendition of their signature song …. The Rage in the Cage!!!!
