The hate on here for the coach is mind boggling. Dude has never been Ted Lasso … some of yall need to toughen up a bit.

We need to toughen up a bit? You're the one who is okay with mediocrity and losing every big game. Grow a fucking spine

^^ curious why you say that, is he not held to a higher standard like he expects out of his players? He should be as accountable as the players are, its a team.

Frank is paid over 2M to win and make us relevant. He has done neither

We have a winning record right? It’s a game. Enjoy it while it’s here. Soon it will be off season again. These games have been fun to watch.

He's 60-59 (62-59, but I don't count D3 UMass Boston) at UMass with zero NCAA or NIT appearances and zero conference tournament wins. He's simply not getting it done. Add in his antics, blame shifting, and lack of accountability, and I'm ready to move on.

I’m probably going to regret this take but here goes.
We could just as easily have 20 wins right now versus where we are with the many close losses.
My issue with Frank and his staff is recruiting. We have no legitimate rim protecting Center who can back up our guards on defense. One of the reasons why we commit so many fouls, in my opinion. The guards know if their man gets behind them it’s an easy 2 points and thus the parade to the foul line. We have 4 PF on the roster and none of them can provide rim protection or a safety net for the guards.
We don’t have a wing forward who can score to take pressure
and double teams off Banks and Parker. Ndjigue should be coming off the bench to be a defense and energy guy, not the starting SF but there is no better option on this team.
That’s my complaint about Frank and his staff. Doesn’t mean I disregard others opinions but if we had this two positions better staffed I think we’d have seen better results this year.

I for one am tired of restarting. For the record, I never would have fired DK. I’m for letting things play out. It’s not like we were some world beater before he (Frank) got here. The constant turnover is not helpful and it’s expensive.
We’re not a powerhouse basketball school. I would argue the profile of our team has not stopped receding since 96. It’s been a continuous down trend with the exception of two NIT final 4’s and a one and done NCAA appearance. I would push for continuity imho. The bigger detractor for this program is playing in the MAC. What kid is going to come to the middle of nowhere Massachusetts to play a bunch of middle of nowhere Midwest schools. Not many…. And that’s on Bamford.
It was kind of sad last night watching the highlights of Umass beating UConn on our home floor back in 04/05. I remember being in the court that night and high fiving Rashaun in Puffton later that weekend. Great times. Crazy to think that’s the last win against a ranked opponent at the Bill.
For now, im going to root for the coaches and kids we have and hopes that we will catch a break in one of these games. I have a feeling we’re owed a couple of favorable bounces. Excited for the next few games.

bmc24, if the team is good, kids will come. Not to harp on the Cal years but his personality was a perfect fit in Amherst. He knew how to ignite the local fanbase, and get the most out of his players. Once they got rolling, the talent followed. It can happen again.

This is a fair response, and I respect your desire for continuity. I have that as well. But to just say that UMass is not a powerhouse so it's ok to be mediocre is a cop out and lets Frank off the hook. I had a lot written out that I deleted and will just sum it up with we can be better, we should be better, and Frank hasn't shown in 4 years that he's getting us there. 4 years is enough time in my opinion.

I'm with BMC on this. Year one in a new conference was always going to have growing pains. There have been a lot this season. There have been no blow outs. Many games could have gone the other way. He wasn't ready for year one in the A10. Year two was the best season since DK. Last year blew chunks. If next year is horrid, like year one or last year, mid season firing.

He wasn't wrong. I don't see it as blaming. He said they didn't perform well, and they didn't. That three play series that created separation after 68-68 was horrific. He praised Danny in comparison. If Jayden and DHS had played better up to expectations, he would have been praising them. Does he have to do it this way in post game pressers? probably not.

DHS played to the capabilities that he has played all season.. I think we should quit the mentality that he's some next level superstar. Without a gameplan no one could have played to their best capabilities, except for a random outlier like Placide (but some games Frank went with Donovan Brown over Placide, never made any sense).
Anyways, if we were to win yesterday, we needed a better game from Banks. Banks didn't play well defensively letting his guy blow by with a back cut (Miami killed us with the back cuts, great team basketball IQ) and didn't make much of an impact on the offensive end besides creating open space for the other players (which is not a knock, our post players play best with solid spacing). Banks is our incredible inconsistent offensive player - he replaced Rahsool's role.. unfortunately, yesterday was not his game, and we needed it to be. Jayden, did not have a good offensive game, but we can't be surprised by that by now so we knew going in he won't be much of a factor. Bettiol played frustrated antsy basketball yesterday, he is at his best when he allows the game to slow down controlling the tempo in the paint and then he is at control. I think Wimbley is raw and has a lot of basketball in him where he can progress year over year until his senior year. Clerc went in for the first time in the game with 4 minutes left? That's like when he put Placide in the game for the first time with a minute left couple games back. No logic to the madness. I really hope Frank nails it with his commentary during March Madness and some cable news network gives him a good contract to talk hoops a couple times a month.

This is mostly in response to bmc24
Frank does not get a pass or any excuses. The landscape has changed considerably. NIL, new conference and virtually no transfer rules any longer have made a mess of the system. All of those things have changed drastically in the last 5 years and Frank is still coaching like it is 2005. Clearly (by his own words) he has not adapted to the new world.
While I appreciate the sentiment, continuity is just not a thing any more - even for the top teams. Frank is a bully and always has been. When it was (a lot) harder to transfer most players had little choice but to stick it out, They could not afford to sit out an entire year; that is just not the case any more. A lot of kids will probably play for 2 or 3 three different schools if they make it 4 years. There will be few few players from this roster on this team next year and a lot of that is going to directly fall in Franks Lap.
I am from the old school, tough love can still work, but you cannot just be a narcissist bully any more like Frank still is.
I will say that as much as I thought DK was in over his head here, he always said "I" and "we", and rarely if ever said "they", "them" or singled out one person negatively - at least not in public. That one thing, I respected a lot from him. He owned it; Frank owns nothing.
Frank's team is not doing things correctly...........
Frank's team is fouling too much ..........
Frank's team sucks at foul shooting...........
Frank's team has not improved in any of the above areas over the course of the season - it is Frank's job to change those things.
Vrabel would kick a guy like Frank out of his facilities in about 15 seconds with that sort of attitude and so would I.
