Conference realignment 3.0
Re: Conference realignment 3.0
another 2-3 teams becoming indy's will make much easier for Umass to survive a bit longer as Indy. Once late OCT and nov schedule can be filled with games vs Indy's the rest of the schedule will fall into place.
Re: Conference realignment 3.0
From Blauds, so take it with a grain of salt, but he says his sources are saying that the AAC is looking to expand with basketball schools, including Wichita, Dayton, and VCU.
This could be the start of the A10 disintegrating as has been rumored for a few year since Xavier, Temple, Charlotte, and Butler left.
Without Dayton and VCU the A10 is not as nice of a place for UMass to stay. Could make us willing to go back to MAC for All-Sports or possibly Conf-USA.
Obviously we'd want in on any AAC expansion, but if they are only sticking to basketball schools as associate members then we might be out of luck.
And what's to stop the AAC from only taking those schools? I could see them wanting SLU and SJU as well.

Re: Conference realignment 3.0
After all of the basketball schools vs. football schools issues that the Big East had pre-split, it's a little surprising to see them looking to replicate that model again. Really bad time for UMass basketball to go into the tank and risk being left on the outside looking in yet again. The A10 minus Dayton and VCU will be U-G-L-Y and the MAC/C-USA alternatives are likely even worse.

I agree.
Re: Conference realignment 3.0
Don't think there is a real threat for Dayton joining the AAC or VCU. They would earn a little more in TV money with the 70/30 split of Football to Basketball. But the even distribution compared to the uneven A10 split, 75% keep what you earn, of NCAA credits would more than off set this. Wichita would balance off Navy and would make the AAC more attractive to us in the event of other AAC defections. (For those basketball eccentric fans.)
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

Wow if any sort of truth UMass is fucked. What has the athletic department done correctly in the last 15+ years. Awful coaching hires, terriblely handled move to fBS not to mention it was done 4/5 years too late and fan attendance keeps dropping and wow do our sports keep losing. May have the worst results of any semi relevant D1 sports school.njumass08 wrote:From Blauds, so take it with a grain of salt, but he says his sources are saying that the AAC is looking to expand with basketball schools, including Wichita, Dayton, and VCU.

Yeah, it would not be good if the A10 starts getting poached, but we knew that was a possibility. Can you imagine the schools the A10 would backfill with?
But Blauds is only right about 15% of the time, so we'll see what happens.

Re: Conference realignment 3.0
^ Seems like a risky move for Dayton & VCU with very little upside. It would be sort of like Archie Miller leaving Dayton for Cincinnati.
Re: Conference realignment 3.0
Given the state of our athletic program, any replacements the A10 found would probably be better than UMass.njumass08 wrote:Yeah, it would not be good if the A10 starts getting poached, but we knew that was a possibility. Can you imagine the schools the A10 would backfill with?

Here's another reason why leaving the MAC was a good idea:

Sources saying that Wichita State would accept invite to AAC. Not super surprising but interesting nonetheless.

Guys, things are looking very bright for the Minutemen, believe it or not!!! We're an independent and can control our own destiny concerning OOC (if we had one) games and payouts. We control our scheduling and keep the indy share of CFP money. Conferences will open up in the future and we can be picky, believe it or not. We will be around for many many years, not to mention the great effect on our national standing as a great state university academically.

^ Love the optimism, but none of that shit will come to fruition if we are out of bowl contention before November every year.
