Is there a clause where they just kick us out? Kidding, not kidding.

(Sorry for the big size)

The Ohio loss has put us as a fringe MAC conference tournament team, far below the "standard of excellence" that Ryan Bamford promised. There's a seemingly "winnable" bunch of games upcoming (take that with a grain of salt), and we're predicted to finish 9-9, 7th place by Nolan. Torvik has us at 8-10, 9th place and missing the tournament. The wins need to start coming immediately because we're going to be near that 8th seed cut line most likely, and we need to also start thinking about tiebreakers.Juice Stand wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 7:56 am After yesterday's home loss vs Bowling Green, both Warren Nolan and Bart Torvik now have UMass predicted to finish at 18-12 overall and 9-9 in conference, putting them at either the 7 or 8 seed in the conference tourney. Any more "unexpected" or "bad" losses (and I say that because it seems like we shouldn't expect wins at this point) and we'll be in real danger of missing the conference tournament.
MEAC as well.Sheck wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 11:15 pm We're just in the wrong MAC. UMass really belongs in the MAAC.
If memory serves from some previous visits, UM fans would be treated to some top level bands for football!Plano Minuteman wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:54 amMEAC as well.Sheck wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 11:15 pm We're just in the wrong MAC. UMass really belongs in the MAAC.
UMass vs. UMes would be a good rivalry!
all kidding, not kidding aside: I have always thought that 0-36 in football (or 0-37) would trigger a vote by the MAC and we would be done. Conferences CAN remove members, just like the Big East booted Temple. So, we really have just 2 more seasons. In basketball, I just don't get it: we beat a couple of ACC schools and now we came just a little short vs couple MAC teams, really think we beat Ball State Saturday. they are REALLY bad. Only thing is: the A10 is not what is was 25 or 30 years ago. Its a one bid league now and football independence obviously wasn't working out for us.MikeUMA wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:17 pm UMass men's revenue sports in the MAC: 0-16

Yeah the point about the A10 and football not mixing is entirely valid, and given how we've hitched the entire UM Athletics wagon to football, a split from the A10 wasn't a surprise. None of that is a new take.ZooMass84 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:15 am In basketball, I just don't get it: we beat a couple of ACC schools and now we came just a little short vs couple MAC teams, really think we beat Ball State Saturday. they are REALLY bad. I think it is that the more talented players are the young guys, Danny especially. Last night he was the best he's been. DHS is an enigma. Even in games where his stats are good to excellent like last night, he is still leaving a lot out there. Dumb fouls, losing rebounds (like the last one last night), missing bunnies, taking threes at the wrong time, etc. vs BGU he pushed Parker and others away. I've met him and enjoy him. I root for him. As a senior leader getting the most bank, he has to be elite in the MAC consistently not just as a player, but as a leader. Announcers also night said there was not a lot of leadership in the walk through/warm ups.69MG wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:49 am We've done a lot of soul searching about what is wrong with this team. I'm starting to get on the train that says Frank isn't able to motivate these guys. I really feel that the talent is there, but we are simply underperforming.
We have 7 losses this year. 6 of the seven losses are by 6 points or fewer. If we win half of those, we are 12-4 and 3-1 in the MAC.
Of our 9 wins, only 1 is by less than 7 points, the BC game. We are just not good in close games. Is it coaching. lack of mental toughness, or both?
I get it, but the standings don't care how close we were. Not qualifying for the MAC Tourney would be an unmitigated disaster and heads (multiple) should roll if it happens.Steve81 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 9:49 am We do have 3 of the teams we lost to by 6 or less points again.
