I am also ticked off about the drop in the top 25 rankings. DK needs to wake up and realize he needs to publicize the team more and suck up to the AP writers. It's all part of the job. If he's not up to the task, then he should step aside. I've got a For Sale sign he can use. I'm sure the next coach will buy his house. This team and program is a joke. If it's not one thing, it's another.

right... the more data the better.UMass87 wrote:It's not an 'RPI' - the RPI is a very simplistic formula. ELO is a system developed for chess ranking and is considerably more robust than the RPI. Sagarin's ratings are most mature when his elo rating and his rating are roughly synchronous - you don't see huge differences between the two.
It's still early in the season and no mathematical model is going to be very good yet. It's also pretty damn difficult to hand rate the teams. I guarantee that any of us filling out a top 25 would generate lots of complaints from fans of teams we left out.
however his rating (assuming you're referring to "Predictor"?) is not meant to be completely synchronous because it takes into account points, home court, and who knows what else
he used to mention when it was seeded or not (earlier in the season) but i don't see a mention of that any more... the terms "well-connected" and "bayesian" are absent though, so I'd assume it's not seeded any more
Hey gentlemen , a hand /arm injury has limited my typing for a while but I read everything and haven't missed a moment of action this season. I will miss my first home game in a couple years with my oldest daughters 10th birthday this weekend. I know she has really enjoyed UMass basketball for a couple years now but I think that her starting to play basketball and this weekend's mass mutual center experience , she is falling in love. .. with the same thing I love...proud dad. About the same age I was , I was actually a year older the 93/94 season was a love affair for me. I think I'm going to read "Going Big-time" GO UMASS
...and you're not taking her to the game Saturday for her 10th birthday and getting her name on the jumbotron because why?theguru wrote:Hey gentlemen , a hand /arm injury has limited my typing for a while but I read everything and haven't missed a moment of action this season. No, I meant the rating (which is not the same as the predictor - it is made using the three other metrics) and which is what Sagarin uses to rank order the teams.Emilimo701 wrote:...
