I like Trump's suggestion. Five years to play with only one transfer.

The article stated that Big East teams will need an NIL budget of $8 million to field a competitive team. I'm disgusted with college athletics. I'll still pay attention, but a lot of the enjoyment is gone.
It’s just another professional league now.
If this is how it’s going to be, the NCAA should set itself up similarly to English soccer with relegation and promotion. This would give schools time to build an infrastructure, facilities while still providing a chance for advancement. This would give fan bases at least some hope of competing at a high level if that’s what their university chooses. Players sign contracts and if a bigger school wants a player they have to pay a transfer fee to the school losing the player to compensate them.
Not an ideal plan but the only way forward to prevent this constant turnover other than a complete split in college athletics. IMO
Agree, this concept is very interesting and deserves consideration.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

993 names in the "pre-portal" so far, but just Parker from UMass. The portal officially opens on 4/7 so we'll know soon enough.

What are we expecting tomorrow? I'm surprised we've only heard from Parker so far considering there are 1000s of declarations already made.

I thought more players would have entered the portal by now but then I was thinking.. if these players do in fact enter the portal, they're not doing themselves much of a favor. No one has showcased their skills enough to move up to a better conference or get paid more. KJei Parker is the one player who will actually benefit from transferring. Carbuccia as well, but why would he transfer right now since he has the keys to lead the team next season.

Scoop, Cam Hailey supposed to be pretty good and Frank seems pretty high on him. I'd like to see Danny stay but could he lose minutes to Hailey? I'll guess there's at least 1 or 2 more transfers but just a guess

Cam Hailey, who's other offers were Albany, Maine, and UMass Lowell? Carbuccia was top 20 in the country in assists. If both are on the roster, I would say the chances of Hailey replacing Carbuccia are less than 1%.

Saying this now, next year's success will come down to our new European guys who are a complete mystery. Some teams have really hit it big with the Euro freshman, we'll see what happens to UMass.

lots of MAC names with "intent to transfer" listed, but only Parker so far from UMass. Notable MAC names include Gillespie (Kent State), Elmer (Miami U), and Campbell (Bowling Green). All 5 of the first team all-MAC are gone next year. 4 gone from the second team, and 3 from the all-Freshman. And the portal isn't officially open yet.

2 thoughts, and my brain is now tired. :D

If Danny stays, I think Hailey could fill the role that Parker had last year. A PG who can shoot coming off the bench and a PG you can put in at the end of close games who can hit free throws.

Regarding Gillespie from Kent State. He would be an absolute plug and play replacement for DHS at the 4. Except for 2 things:
1. He is probably looking to go to a higher level conference.
2. Would any top-of-the-line MAC transfer play for Frank after seeing him this year?

Here are Gillespie's stats:

The next Weekly Sports Luncheon will be Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Scheduled Speakers:

Men’s Basketball Head Coach Frank Martin and a speaker tbd.
We'll be a week into the official transfer portal so this might be interesting.

Sure seems like Osman was kept off the court to save his eligibility, only to transfer out. Reminiscent of Big Jelly last year.
