East had 19 points and Mitchell had 20 (why can't we get players like that???). The broadcast showed a graphic of likely draft positions for Kentucky players. Mitchell was 7th or 8th on the list, projected at #77, which would likely translate to G League or international. Interestingly, he leads this extremely talented team in minutes per game.

Covid changed the game and there were so many other variables with this Umass roster but it is wild to see how many players are still out there finishing their college careers. Umass could have had a tournament caliber roster.

I still think they were going to make a run in that 2020 A10 Tournament that got cancelled by Covid while they were warming up against VCU... they were looking very good down the stretch, could have won that URI game if not for a phantom foul call... they just seemed to really be gelling at the right time. Oh well.

I agree that he’s a good man. He definitely knows the game and presents well. Nothing wrong with a commentator’s role. It’s a good gig…all-expenses paid travel and accommodations.

Like I said, MM seemed like a good guy. One thing I didn't understand was I had heard that he didn't really have any sort of strength training program for the guys and left it up to themselves to workout. And you could see it. Remember when DK first got here and they used to post pics of guys and how much bigger/stronger they were? And it paid off on the floor. DK understood that. Look at what Frank recruits comparatively to MM. That's what I mean by tournament caliber, Frank has the experience and knowledge to build it, MM was still learning. It just looks more like someone is in charge now and knows what he wants and how to get it. Way more confident in the direction of the program now

^ Floyd, I agree. Never thought much of MM as a coach. I know there are those who don't like Frank, but I'm thrilled we have him. He has put together a roster of "his type of guys". They don't quit and they are unpleasant to play against. That's what he preaches. Now if we can get some of our "shooters" to start making shots we will be in good shape.

Hindsight is 20/20, but there was nothing special or unique about McCall, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other coaches very similar to him.

After the Kelsey fiasco they needed to put out the fire quickly. They wanted a young guy coming off of some sort of success who wasn't scared off by how Kelsey changed his mind so quickly. So it was clearly a meh hire and we got meh results. It is what it is.
