2018 - Game #1 The Dukes
Re: 2018 - Game #1 The Dukes
If I am the coach, and know that my team is in control of the game from the first snap, right on top of my to-do list is to show my #2 qb that I have confidence in him. I get him into the game early with my first teamers. I was surprised that Comis was in that early, but him being successful, finding Isabella for the long score, was, as Eck says, "a beautiful thing."
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

Still no OC. I wonder why that is. Seems like last year there was more than a few times where Whip looked like he had more on the plate to deal with than he could handle. Is it about money, or he just feels he is the best man for the job? Hoping no situations arise that bite the team on the butt, as it looks like they may have the talent to do well. Rooting for a sweet win vs BC.

I get the confidence thing, but this needs to be cohesive. The more snaps with the same group together the better.
Hey the important thing here is Umass is above .500 for the first time in a long time and the first time EVER in the BCS era.

You all forget that Comis is the guy that kept us in the Florida game. He is a good QB. He is definitely behind Ford on the team, but putting him in there messes with BC big time. Different styles and throwing with opposite arms is not easy to prepare for. It forces our opponents to game plan for two different games just in case. It also allows our back up to get meaningful snaps with a group god forbid Ford goes down.eldonabe wrote: Mon Aug 27, 2018 11:57 am I get the confidence thing, but this needs to be cohesive. Yeah, it hasn't really worked. And your example was a game he started in. The platoon has yet to really work in 2 years or so of it.

This is exactly what the announcers said. If they are out next week against BC too, then they must have violated a big rule.Floyd wrote: Sun Aug 26, 2018 5:59 amThought they said Rodgers and Addo were out due to violation of team rules or something like that.DeefNasty wrote: Sat Aug 25, 2018 9:50 pmI heard he’s out vs BC next week as well. I heard the announcers say that he was not going to play today. No explanation. Also the transfer running back from Syracuse, Fredrick's did not dress for the game.
In the halftime interview with the AD he said that the area of the bubble behind the stadium would have a turf field.

I haven't seen or heard anything about Jessie Britt. What category of missing is he in?

Going in for a series or two is not a platoon. It is change of pace. Yes I know Comis started the game against Florida. I think they only truly platooned for half a season when Comis came back from injury. But, that was not my point, I am not suggesting Comis take the job from Ford or to go back to a true platoon. But, since we’ve done it in the past, and Comis got to play a bit vs Duquesne, BC now has to prepare for the platoon. That takes reps and time in practice that could be used differently if they were sure we wouldn’t do it.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Mon Aug 27, 2018 2:09 pm ^

Seems like it worked well last Saturday night. Messrs Ford and Comis were both successful and had good nights . Seems pretty ridiculous to argue that it didn’t work when in fact it worked quite well.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Mon Aug 27, 2018 8:00 am ^Of course, but didn't Comis play in the 2nd or 3rd series? There's no need for that, and it's been proven in the past that it doesn't work.

OK if we are going to complain about a 63-15 win, I've got something. How about the fact that in yet another game UMASS did not convert on any field goals. Some things never change.

I was looking for him too. Thought they mentioned an injury, but I do remember they said he was switched to RB I believe. Love the backfield, Young and Bilal Ally both excellent backs. Got to get Britt out there as well, I was impressed with he and Dingle last year and think they'll both be big parts of this team

I believe he was suspended along with Isaiah Rodgers. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm56Yl6jl92 ... _copy_linkFloyd wrote: Mon Aug 27, 2018 6:28 pmUMassRed wrote: Mon Aug 27, 2018 3:50 pm I haven't seen or heard anything about Jessie Britt. What category of missing is he in?

minutefanjsf - if Saturday was the first time he had done this, I'd agree with you. Getting the guy reps and all of that. But it's not, he has formally tried to fun a platoon for years now with these two. It has not worked. Ford should be starting and getting all of the reps until it's time to take him out to avoid injury in blowout games. Beating up on a piss poor Duquesne team isn't going to convince me that all of a sudden this platoon thing is a good idea.
