Posted elsewhere, but worth repeating here...

UK's next game isn't until December 26 so logistically speaking the December 21st game in Amherst may be a good bet for Coach Cal jersey retirement day at the Mullins Center.
UM's 12/21 game is versus Providence. Just a tad unfortunate that it's a Monday, and students will be gone by then.

^Yeah but given the opponent and the Cal event, it's probably smart to do it when kids aren't around, since it'd be the rare intersession game that draws really well (very possibly even sells out)

It should 100% sell out considering the event. But given history, I'm skeptical.

right now, the best Calipari would get from Memphis is a bunch of booing and middle fingers...I don't know if that relationship will ever be healed.

Now I'm wondering, how did a U of Memphis fan get 185 posts on this board?

Looks like a lot of football posts. Probably just a fan of the game.

So what number do they retire for Cal? 96?

Might not even be a number, just a jersey with his name on it. IMO that's the most likely scenario.

Your idea is a good one too though. Especially since it wouldn't actually impact the numbers we have available; 96 isn't a legal number is college bball as we know.

I agree about no number.

You could float a bunch of ideas about numbers...
- Kosty's 96 idea. Yeah, that was our marquis year, no question, but it was just one of Cal's very good years at UM.
- We could do 5, as in 5-straight A-10 regular season / A-10 tourney titles.
- 193-71 (his UM record)
- .731 (his UM win percentage)

They all have various downsides though. None appeals to me over a numberless jersey.

I think a banner that says "Coach Cal" is fine. Other teams have done similar things for people who were not players.

Exactly. A banner that says CAL would be perfect.
