Basically we had the coaching equivalent to Dr. J step through the program when we got Cal and that sort of thing just doesn't happen too often. He will end up in the coaching hall of fame and we will always be strongly connected with his rise to the top. Good for Cal, good for UMass. What's most impressive is he doesn't forget and keeps giving back.
He might get there some day, he might not. If/when he wins a couple of NCAA Championships and people stop believing statements like this..."Calipari doesn't lack for charm, though his past NCAA transgressions could be problematic for a program still sensitive of its image following the recruiting scandal left behind by Eddie Sutton in the late-1980s."

Unlike St. Jim of Snorrs, one incident by one player fifteen years ago has stuck to Cal like glue!

FACT: A high percentage of non UMass college hoops fans think Cal is dirty.

It will be funny is Cal makes his final, final decision in the morning and stays at Memphis (and acquires controlling interest of FedEx)...only to have Travis Ford be the backup hiring.

Hey, if it gives us entertainment at this time of the year, it's worth it.

And not just dirty, but the dirtiest of all.

I ventured over to a UConn board when the scandal hit, just to see what the reaction was.....and they can't go two threads without mentioning Calipari/Memphis/UMass. It's really weird.

If we lose the Memphis game as a result of Cal moving to UK, I'm not that worried - hopefully we'd get a game with UK at some point. This would give UMass and DK another year or two to get his system in place, develop his team, etc. Given the 2008-09 results, I think we'd stand a better chance against Cal/Kentucky in a year or two from now vs. having to play Cal/Memphis at the start of next season.

If Cal goes to Kentucky...leaving behind some unhappy players in Memphis, does that open the door for DK to bring a few more Tiger transfers up to Amherst...? He knows all those guys...

I'm just sayin'...... 8)

Matt, you're the writer, but I'm thinking this is not right, in the grammatical sense:

"For many Kentucky fans, Pitino is either the one who got away or a turncoat. After taking a lot of cash to leave for the Boston Celtics, a move that turned out disastrous, Pitino accepted the job at Louisville."

turned out to be disastrous? disastrously? turned into a five-year cluster f*$#? What we need is an adverb, I think, so probably it would have to by "cluster-f*$#y." I'm not sure if that's hyphenated.

Forget about grammar. Dewey's editor should know how to spell Billy Clyde's surname. There's no excuse for that.

More for the rivalry: With the Arizona courtship of Pitino, Calipari mentioned today that Arizona made an offer to him but he turned it down. In other words, if Pitino were to go there, he'd be the second choice. Both peacocks have such lovely feathers, don't they?

Calhoun's contract is up...

This has piss Calhoun off as well, Cal will be making twice or more what he makes.

We now know the price range Umass needs to pay to retain a winning coach!

They are two very different caliber of human beings though IMHO. In that category Ricky P. cannot hold Cal's jock.
