FIRE WALT BELL!
Re: FIRE WALT BELL!
Bell was hired because he was a good recruiter which is fine if your are at a P5 with money to pay for quality coordinators and assistants to surround that type of head coach with.G5 schools need to hire proven winning HC’s who have won on smaller budgets. Look at Buffalo they hired a winning HC from a D3 school who has since gone on to Kansas or K-State. When UMass was looking for Whip’s replacement I had written about Vince Kehres from Mount Union, whose father had been interviewed for the UMass job years earlier for his success at Mount Union as well. Vince is now the DC at Toledo. These type of guys have to know how to recruit AND coach because of their budget limitations. There are many successful D2 and FCS coaches who win on tight budgets for their level, UMass is an upgrade in pay for the staffs they have at lower levels. Hell Whip brought almost his entire staff from Brown with him to UMass
when he was hired.
Bamford has bungled the FB and MBB HC searches because he was looking for a certain image. I’ll cut him a partial break on MBB because his original hire was a solid choice but he panicked when Kelsey walked away. You don’t give your top two revenue sports to unproven coaches when you are trying to build a foundation. In the case of FB they have also been hurt by their schedule as well.
There has been no plan for this program since the move was made to FBS, McCutcheon was a buffoon and Bamford took risks with our top two programs and UMass has paid dearly.

If I’m a head coach in fbs or fcs looking to fill an OC position I am not hiring this guy once he’s canned at the end of this season. His play calling is horrid and the more he coaches guys, the worse they seem to get.Kelz626 wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 6:16 pmNot to mention he only call plays the final 4 games he was at FSU to the tune of 19 points a game. Not sure why Bamford thought he was such an offensive gurudennisdent wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 12:34 pm Bell is NOT a quality offensive coordinator and his career has shown it up to this day. Most of UMass's scores have been in garbage time--just like his play calling--garbage! He has about five play calls and a couple of formations--JUST FREAKIN WATCH THE GAMES!
The coaches that he worked under were fired just after he left at UMD and FSU!
Steve81, you actually think Walt is a good coordinator? What evidence gives you that opinion? You live on planet delusia.
Re: FIRE WALT BELL!
Got news for you: I emailed the AD and Bamford things are on track. "as expected" and "meeting other criteria" is what he said. This means he's good with this ridiculous team and Bell will not be fired.Quann wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 6:06 amIf I’m a head coach in fbs or fcs looking to fill an OC position I am not hiring this guy once he’s canned at the end of this season. I don't know WTF is going on but Bamford is OK with this football team. Bell will not be fired even after he goes 0-12 this year. That is my summary of his email response to me.

It’s official then, this guy has the inside scoop, a direct email from Bamford.ZooMass84 wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:14 am I don't know WTF is going on but Bamford is OK with this football team. Bell will not be fired even after he goes 0-12 this year. That is my summary of his email response to me.

Re: FIRE WALT BELL!
I highly doubt Bamford was going to put into writing that he is disappointed and/or he is considering firing the guy. Did he do that ahead of axing Whipple or DK? Genuinely asking... I just can't see the AD doing that in a response to a fan email.

Re: FIRE WALT BELL!
Can't believe I donated and got the little helmets and hats etc. if I knew this was coming. Georgia Southern or who ever fires their coach after a sh*tty start but we have to keep Coach Numbnuts after he's on the way to being 1-27. Obviously, the fix is in and Bamford is part of a plan to ax UMass football (at least as FBS). NO OTHER FBS school or self respecting FCS school would put up with this. Can you see JMU or NDSU putting up with this???InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:24 am I highly doubt Bamford was going to put into writing that he is disappointed and/or he is considering firing the guy. Re: FIRE WALT BELL!
Seems like a pretty overly-dramatic, and drastic, response to what is likely a canned response from the AD.

Re: FIRE WALT BELL!
Marty Jacobson and the other big donors who give a damn about UMass football must be livid. GET RID OF BELL. If he beats UConn, URI, and UMaine then all is good. If he doesn't beat all 3 of them he should be gone. I don't give a damn about "other metrics" like APR, etc. I'd rather not sponsor football at all then be #1 in ESPN's Bottom 10 year after year.

I'm sorry, I give a damn but soon I'll go away and stop caring and UMass football will have all of 5 fans.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:43 am Seems like a pretty overly-dramatic, and drastic, response to what is likely a canned response from the AD.

I'm sure they are getting a more realistic response from Bamford on things than the response you got via email.

Yep, the big donors would be the ones you should ask. They are looking for a return on their investment so I'm sure that they are having VERY realistic conversations with Bamford regarding the direction of the program.
Save your breath... you'll need it to blow up your date

Yeah, saw it on Twitter. Problem is that I don't think Bamford is that smart--personable and outgoing--but an empty suit. Now Swamy is the person to get with Meehan...Old Cage wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 7:27 pm Has this been posted anywhere here? Meehan: "If they were smart they would get me involved."

Hope this gets to Bamford and Bell and lights even a little fire under their content butts...

Wow.. Said he liked Whip and wasn't sure why they got rid of him. Not exactly backing up your AD.
