1/3/2026 (home) and 2/28/2026 (away) for the record. Syracuse wore something similar in orange and navy stripes many years ago.69MG wrote: Sat Nov 01, 2025 10:28 amWhen do we play BGSU?

2025-26 Season

Really curious about Josh Engel. Walk-on wasn't going to get much time anyway, but he redshirted last season, and has been on the bench in street clothes for every game so far this season. Is he going to redshirt again??
Re: 2025-26 Season
I think it will be another average year and we will be stuck in no man's land. The only real hope we have of ever being a top 50 team again is if Football gets its act together (I think they will) and we dominate the football league and grow our fan base. Maybe the next conference realignment will lead to greener pastures. The alignment will be something like SEC, Big Ten and Big 12 going 24 teams each. Then maybe we end up somewhere with the stragglers..

Re: 2025-26 Season
Here's the trend I'm seeing 5 games into the season: As the clock winds down in the 2nd half, this team tightens up, loses their flow, can't make shots, turns the ball over, and misses free throws. In the games they've won aside from Albany, the leads have shrunk, and in the games they've lost, they haven't been able to convert in the field or at the line in crunch time.
The reason for this, I believe, is Frank Martin. I've really loved what I've seen from our starting 5. Talent-wise, I think this is as good as we've had in a while, maybe even better than the Cross/Cohen year. These guys don't suddenly forget how to shoot jumpshots or free throws, they tighten up. It's a natural tendency for anyone when the game's on the line, but a good coach knows how to keep the team loose, and Frank Martin doesn't do that.
The scowl and the tendency to yell things like "you're a bum" and "what else can you screw up" are not exactly confidence inspiring, yet this is how he interacts with his players during important moments. These are players he recruited and says nice things about in interviews, but he beats them down when it's winning time. I am very close to bailing on Frank the coach, Frank the leader, and Frank the motivator. Frank the recruiter is fine, but other than that, he's become a hinderance, not a help.

When is the last time we've heard " this guy or that guy had a nice game or did this or that really well"? Rarely. Its ok to be tough on your team but its ok too to pick them up during games. Doesn't look like they enjoy playing sometimes

They’ve dropped some winnable games, but the roster should be good enough to be a top MaC team. Does Frank get them there, I’m not sure. I’m in agreement with others that Frank’s style doesn’t seem to get the best out of most kids.
They’ve got a couple solid guards, a big that can score in the paint, and Jayden/DHS should be good forwards. The two freshmen have potential. There’s a lot of weakness right now, but it should be correctable to an extent. Turnovers and FTs can be fixed.
I won’t hold my breath, but hoping we see some meaningful games in March. Winning the next 2 in the consolation bracket would give me some optimism.
I don’t have the energy to get bent out of shape about UMass sports anymore. I’ll try to stay glass half full (unless MBB fully implodes).

Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades
