And you need to relive bambi of his duties as well

McCall's contract buyout language

Termination by UMASS Without Cause:
COACH is entitled to a payment according to the following timeline should termination occur. The buyout payment will be reduced by an offset for any basketball related salary earned by COACH during the remaining buyout period.

-In Year 5: April 1, 2021- March 31, 2022
-->Payment equals 50% remaining value of total comp in Year 5 and total comp for Year 6.

One year extension signed on May 18, 2018
- In Year 6: April 1, 2022 - March 31, 2023
--> Payment equals 50% remaining value of total comp in Year 6

McCall's base comp in year 5 and 6 is $850K, so to buy him out UMass would owe $1,275.000

I have a theory, which is nothing more than that, so it is pure speculation. My theory is that TB is perhaps orchestrating this. His relationship to the player is well-known and need not be repeated again. It is the reason, as I understand, for Tre coming to the school in the first place. So it seems strange that Tre would take position that would, in all likelihood, have a negative effect on TB's staying power at the program. So TB sees that McCall is weak. Sees that this might be his chance, after being a perineal high school coach, to finally coach a D1 school, maybe his only chance, and to finally make some serious cash. So he instigates the possibility of a mass exodus of his players, the school panics, asks the kids what they can do to keep them, they say fire McCall, and TB gets named the head coach.

It's a horrible way to look at things, but I'm in such shock right now that I'll go along with it.

Theres no way TB stays if Tre goes.. TB angled his way to a P5 assistant job with a large pay raise and Tre will follow. Either TB is made the head coach of Umass and Tre stays or he gets a p5 assistant job and Tre follows

This seems a fair assertion to make.

Thanks for doing the research on that, but yikes, what are the chances that the department can afford that buyout without a donor stepping in? This is just an awful situation. Bamford certainly has quite a mess to clean up, and action/damage control needs to happen quickly. Fans are not happy.

Well, Mitchell didn't come to UMass because of McCall.

I have a theory: younger coachers who didn't play basketball at the college level are at a disadvantage. Maybe it's a respect thing, I'm not sure.

There is a coach on the bench with over 400 (prep) wins that did play college hoops. He brought in the highest rated recruit in a long time. If he lands a job somewhere else, he isn't coming back.

I thought I did, I apologize.

Its a national account that is typically well sourced saying that this will make an interesting week in Amherst and wondering if Tony B gets a job.

Wouldn't the buyout be $850k then?

Either way, that is a terrible fucking contract that Bamford signed, and if he can't negotiate something better then he should be fired too.

Is it though? I think it's just some boob behind a keyboard throwing shit against the wall. He also had an axe to grind against Umass a few years ago.
