We're FBS so there are a ton of coaches who will apply for the HC position. In reality its a career killer. Not until Marty Meehan is gone we have to put up with Bamford. Meehan is 70 at the end of this year. Maybe he retires and the new Prez gets rid of Bamford. Obviously no one is going to hire Bamford but he's vested (maybe) for a pension. $1,000,000 per year is a travesty. Only in Mass can an AD suck as bad as Bamford and still be employed.

The guy on twitter that ranks pretty much every football program that exists has UMass at 201, behind D3 North Central Illinois, three D2 teams, and I think I counted 59 FCS teams. I can't fault him, they have to earn every ounce of respect.

Preseason rankings from some guy on twitter are not worth very much. We won the National Championship in 1998 and were picked preseason to finish at the bottom of the A10.

Western Michigan is in the news again today.. their AD is leaving to become the AD at Michigan State. A problem we hope to have.

I looked a little deeper and he's not just some guy on Twitter. He's been at ESPN since 2019 covering college football, is the guy that came up with the SP+ metric which a lot of people are using, and has authored three books about college football.

But in general, I agree. Preseason rankings don't mean much, it's just fodder for offseason chit chat.

Well when a team turns over 90% of the roster and brings in a new OC, they are pretty useless. Really any preseason metric is hard these days when so many teams turn over a bunch of players. Still have to go out and earn the respect though.

actually its a ray of hope: we are 201 and Sacred heart is 242 and Stonehill is 306. so maybe we get a couple wins

according to the chart, it's a good thing we aren't in the Yankee Conference anymore: we wouldn't get a single win. URI is 121 and UNH is 167. But hey, Bamford HAD TO fire Mark Whipple....he actually had us competitive and we wouldn't want that

Thanks for clarifying, some guy on twitter whose covered college football for a few seasons on horrendous espn, developed a questionable metric and knows nothing about how most of these teams will perform including UMass. Agreed it's all just meaningless fodder.

Hey I know what we can do until the season starts: let's talk about AD Bamford and blame him for everything from. climate change to daylight savings time cuz we haven't done that enough ....

Where did you see this information? I haven’t received any info in email. Also for the record this is actually a good move by the dept. lot 11 has been difficult to access from university drive many times over the last few years. It should actually allow traffic to move more smoothly. The new roundabout at amity will help, too.
