Indeed. It was always nice hearing him, but also having the chances to work and help him through things over the years. You always learn something different when working with people, and I definitely took a few things away with me when I was around him.
Enjoy the next stop...at least the cold shouldn't get to you too much
and many of us agree...this is going to be tough to fill, not just of who it is, but the timeframe available...

That is extremely and ridiculously uncalled for. You have no idea who he is, what he is like, or what he is about, and to make a comment like that towards him is beyond below. I do not agree with his assessment of Ford, and I am with you on yours, but to say that about someone else is wrong and shows more about your character than anything else.
You bash Ford, but with a comment like that you should probably look in the mirror.

However, did T. Ford ever send a thank you note to UMassHoops?

Advantage Behler
Seriously though, I call "no mas" on further discussion about Ford's departure in this thread. We've been there done that. If you find it necessary to beat the dead horse some more, take it to the Ford thread that just can't seem to die itself.
This one's about Bob and the huge contributions to UMass broadcasting, and especially it's evolution online, during his time. I'm going to miss him and think the Univ has a tough task ahead in filling his shoes.

PS: Thanks for the letter, it was very thoughtful.

I hope Mike Corey throws his name into the hat ... UMass grad, a decade at Delaware, and a guy who's very passionate about perfecting his craft. He deserves a shot, although I doubt he'd leave for an interim position. I wonder who of any stature whatsoever would take a P/T gig.

Mike Corey is a class act. However, there is no way in hell he throws his name into the mess UMass has on their hands. I could definitely see him applying once the full search committee is put together next spring/summer. From what I know, he has a sweet deal at Delaware but after football he doesn't have another high profile sport the way he would at UMass with Basketball.
As far as this year goes, there are plenty of people who are qualified for the job that will apply for it. I think they already have a guy in mind for it. Broadcasting is so competitive that you can get good people on short money and no guarantees. Although whoever takes over will be no Behler, I'm sure it will be OK.
BTW, Mike Corey is broadcasting the Summer Olympics this year.

I would imagine the same...it's always tough to "adjust" to someone new after the previous one leaves from doing it for quite some time, but as long as they are good and respectable enough, then eventually things come together.
Props to Mike too; not a bad summer trip to take!
I wonder though if they do hire one person to cover, or if they do a couple depending on the sport(s) needed...granted, Bob learned and covered virtually all of it, but everything he had to do aside from such...it's tough sometimes for only one to cover all of it unless you're the right person for such...

I just don't see the appeal of interim...at least to get someone good. Oh well we'll see.
That's for the link on Mike.

"I am incredibly honored to be given this opportunity at UMass," said Maurer. "I can remember going to watch UMass play in Philadelphia every year in the regular season and the A-10 Tournament. To have the opportunity to be broadcasting the games of one of the class teams in the A-10 is a dream come true. I can't wait to get started and follow in the footsteps of Bob Behler. I want to continue to satisfy the UMass faithful by keeping up the proud tradition of being the "Voice of the Minutemen."
Sounds like he's planning to be here about two years.

So our new guy comes from Charleston Southern.
I tried finding a board for them, hoping to ask what fans thought of the guy, but I can't find any board that has any activity.

UMassathletics.com article wrote:"I was very impressed with Josh when he filled on for me to call the UMass at Jacksonville State game," said Behler. "He is an announcer that is well prepared and calls a good game. I think UMass fans will enjoy listening to him. He will do a great job carrying on the tradition of quality broadcasts on the UMass Sports Network."
I remember this very vaguely....anyone remember him calling this game for us?

Boise State is very lucky. UMass was very lucky. I cant even imagine how many hours/week Bob pulled. He was all UMass. I remember listening to him and Marty on the ZONE (rip) recalling old UMass stories. Stories of Jack, the NCAA's, Cal and Camby. It will be impossible to replace such a great and hardworking asset to this University. Thank you Bob Behler and good luck.

They have a few clips of him doing the Jax State game at the UMassAthletics site. He sounds young to me, sounds better when he's excited. Will give him every opportunity though. Welcome to UMass, Josh.
