I think Frank already knows the answer on Mathok and Foster - and eye test seems that they aren’t ready in the minimal time that they have been out there. Honestly would prefer to see Worthy and Curry get more time under their belts (and Mason to see about effectiveness) as they are more likely to be needed in games and they are making freshmen mistakes that can cost us for sure…first thing is first though, we know that games like this are easily overlooked and then turn up as losses. Can’t do that.

I think the 9 man rotation Frank has is fine, in fact, one of the great positives. 3 man rotation of 4/5 of Cross Cohen HS is working fine. 5 others to play 1/2/3 is great.

agree - would like to try and get Curry and Worthy going for next week when we start league play - I really don't see Foster and Mathok playing much at all the rest of the year but Curry and Worth will be needed.UMassFan99 wrote: Mon Dec 25, 2023 4:43 pm I think Frank already knows the answer on Mathok and Foster - and eye test seems that they aren’t ready in the minimal time that they have been out there. Any idea when the boys got/get back from Hawaii? Hope if they aren't already back they get back today and have a few days to shake off the jet lag - last thing we need is for them to sleep walk through the first half vs Siena and we're in a dog fight halfway through the 2nd half.

No Thanks. Gotta keep the regulars fresh. If those 2 get 6-8 minutes that'll be fine.69MG wrote: Mon Dec 25, 2023 9:45 am ^ Exactly. I want to see 20 minutes from Majok and Foster. We need to know if they will be any help this year. Maybe Mason gets to play? I would also like to see that. Other than that, everyone have a Merry Christmas and we'll see you in Amherst on 12/30.

^ I was referring just to the Siena game. We should (and I hope we do) have a 25 or larger lead in the 2nd half. I would like to see what these 2 (more Majok than Foster) might be able to do with enough minutes to get into the flow of the game.
7'3 guys are hard to find and we need to find a way to develop him. There probably won't be a lot of opportunities for long minutes in conference play, so I'm hoping Majok can get some time in this game. If he doesn't work out, so be it, but I'm hoping he can help next year.

I'm more interested in Mason getting time. He's played a lot more basketball and has a superior skill set than Majok's. He has the bulk to bang a little as well. He could be a legitimate option off the bench this year.

I do agree with that. Mason has a better chance to give us productive minutes this year. I hope they do NOT red-shirt him. If he works out, he could give Josh some rest and DHS could give Matt some rest. Best case scenario is that we have either Josh or Matt on the floor whenever it matters.Uminuteman wrote: Tue Dec 26, 2023 2:07 pm I'm more interested in Mason getting time. Do the requirements for red shirt come his total available games or the team? If it’s the team, he can play in a little fewer than half the A10 schedule and maintain a red shirt. I don’t see any point in trying to preserve redshirts with transfers gone wild, now, though.69MG wrote: Tue Dec 26, 2023 4:43 pmI do agree with that. I'm not positive, but I think the 30% rule only applies to medical redshirts. So if he plays, give him as many games as you can.

The odds of a kid staying at one school now is probably < 25%. Like I said before, use 'em if you got 'em. No reason to "save " anything anymore.

Question for OFF-Season. If you are comfortable with saying anything, have you heard what the plans are for Mason? Also, if you have seen him practice, do you think he can give us 10-12 decent minutes?

I wasn’t sure if it was like football where a player can play 33% of season.69MG wrote: Tue Dec 26, 2023 5:45 pm I'm not positive, but I think the 30% rule only applies to medical redshirts. So if he plays, give him as many games as you can.

Have not heard anything and have not seen him practice…I’m hoping to get to the Siena game, if he does not play in that game I would say they are gonna hold him out all year(barring an injury).69MG wrote: Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:09 am Question for OFF-Season. I understood. And I still disagree. We've had enough breaks in the action. Now is not the time for more "rest" or trying to avoid injuries. Cohen and Cross played 30/29 and 26/23 minutes against Portland and ODU. They should be playing 25-30 in this game as well. Sure we had 3 games in 4 days, but aside from that, it will have been 2 weeks since the game against WVU and we are short an OOC game. Keep the train rolling.69MG wrote: Tue Dec 26, 2023 1:44 pm ^ I was referring just to the Siena game. We should (and I hope we do) have a 25 or larger lead in the 2nd half.
