So a friend who coached against him multiple times explained that he plays/played forward and not a SG on his team. He played it very well, but he was undersized for it. That means he played down low if they zoned and picked up a bigger guy on defense. Depending on the offensive sets, it might not matter much on that end. He is listed as a SG for college based mostly on his height. How is that hard to understand?NilesGold wrote:^ What does that even mean? How is he more of a 3 than a SG?

SG or a 3 or a wing player? Last year we started 3 guards most of the season. Several A10 teams go with a PG and two wings (i.e., SGs). If Pierre can play, he'll get minutes.

Wow--athleticism reminds me a bit of Eddie Jones.
Re: KAEO: Carl Pierre
From what I've seen Pierre is offensively a perimeter player, he does almost all of his scoring on jump shots or driving from the perimeter to the rim. Defensively he may spend time in the painted area due to what his team needs of him, but he's got the quickness to defend guards. From my vantage point he's a SG/wing player and it not undersized.minutefanjsf wrote:So a friend who coached against him multiple times explained that he plays/played forward and not a SG on his team. Okay. The guy who I spoke to coached against him for four years. Says he is the real deal and under recruited, but undersized. I think I'll take his word for it.NilesGold wrote:From what I've seen Pierre is offensively a perimeter player, he does almost all of his scoring on jump shots or driving from the perimeter to the rim. ^I don't know, Niles watched YouTube videos of him. I think I'll take Niles word over the coach who saw him play for 4 years.

Re: KAEO: Carl Pierre
It's also possible that his competition allowed him to play bigger in HS where as in college he's going to be more relied upon as a SG. Undersized can also mean lean. Doesn't always have to be about height.minutefanjsf wrote:So a friend who coached against him multiple times explained that he plays/played forward and not a SG on his team. This is the most enjoyable losing season ever!
Re: KAEO: Carl Pierre
I'm questioning his use of, and/or your interpretation of, "undersized". I think I'm being reasonable here.minutefanjsf wrote:Okay. The guy who I spoke to coached against him for four years. Says he is the real deal and under recruited, but undersized. I think I'll take his word for it.
Re: KAEO: Carl Pierre
Sounds like he may have been undersized for his defensive assignment of playing down low or against a big man. At 6'3" I'd like to see someone bigger at the SF position, I 'd say he's a little undersized for that. Clearly not undersized for SG if he has the skills to play there. (Seems like he does.)

Re: KAEO: Carl Pierre
I have to agree with Niles on this. The term "undersized" should relate to the position he is recruited to play, not to his position in high school. To my knowledge, he has been recruited as a shooting guard, not a forward, and I don't see him as lacking in size as a SG, unless I'm missing something.
