Who knew Matt Murray would be lights out? As far as I'm concerned, Matt Murray should be UMass' Most Outstanding Player. We beat UMD, who was the best of the 4 teams we beat to win the National Championship. Lake State, Bemidji State, and St. Cloud are basically Bridgewater State's. tiny regional colleges. We got the biggest break being in that bracket. BC and Wisconsin getting beat was a blessing. The stars aligned for us for once!!!!

It was destiny! You could tell the team was on a mission and would have beaten Wisconsin or BC. Both those schools did not put up much of a fight in the tournament. The Big Ten teams really sucked. St. Cloud dominated BU and BC and UMASS dominated St. Cloud. UMASS was primed for this and showed it championship caliber!

On an aside- I am so happy that the jerseys the team wore said MASSACHUSETTS! Put it to rest what university represents the state. I think the sports teams that can fit it on their shirts should all say Massachusetts. Make that other school put Lowell on theirs.

The latest official brand guide uses the Power-U and Massachusetts. Notably no UMass wordmark or Sam logo anymore.

They also simplified the styling: removing the font's bevels and using just one shade of maroon (which matches the academic "UMass maroon") and white as the primary. Black and grey are listed as secondary colors. I like these changes.

I wonder why they make a distinction between the power-U on light or dark background. It makes sense why they'd do that with a wordmark for contrast. But IMO the U and the outlines provide enough contrast with the background where both the U and Mass are readable on both light and dark backgrounds. I find the maroon-U and white-Mass especially readable.

Anyway, I would think all new uniforms will reflect this branding.

The team is heading to the State House today!

The ceremony is at 2:00 and I think Channel 22 in Springfield is broadcasting it. My understanding is that a lot of the guys are home. They hadn't seen their families for around 8 months and went home shortly after getting back from Pittsburg.

I wonder if they'll serve the team fast food...
