No, and unless I'm missing something, and I usually do, the kid is trying to straighten out his life, with the support of the coaching staff and the administration and if he manges to make it to next Fall he will be our state university starting point guard.

How many tries do you think you give someone to straighten themselves out. Hasn't he already had a few opportunities to do that?

Don’t even bother Bob. People are just going to tell you that EVERY college student gets suspended from their athletic team, tests positive for drugs multiple times, is arrested for possession of liquor and drugs, is cited for driving with a suspended license, has academic issues, skips class, shows up to late to team meetings, gets kicked off his team, transfers to another school, gets arrested for being too drunk to recognize where he lives at 4am in the morning, and gets himself suspended by his second team.

I mean after all, that's just regular rite of passage stuff, right? We've all been there...

I'm not sure if people read the bios on UMassathletics.com but Doug Wiggins said

the Best Part about Living in Amherst was that there was "Nothing around to get you in trouble"

you guys just want to write the kid off, if, and i say if, he can keep himself out of trouble you will be very pleased to see him as our starting point guard. He's a scoring point guard and a very very good overall player that will be a tough matchup for the opposition. It will make our team much better to have him playing, so as a Umass student and fan, i hope he is still around.

If he gets through till next season staying away from drugs, using alcohol responsibly (if at all), going to classes and doing his school work, not getting in trouble, that will be absolutely great. It will be great for the basketball team and even greater for him. I really hope it turns out that way and I'm pretty sure the rest of us who post here hope so, too.

If he really believes that, he's an arrogant fool. Does he recognize the possibility that he may not practice with the team all year? Does he realize that therefore he's gonna have to complete with players with lots of practice and game experience with the system?
I'm sure he knows more about his status on the team than any of us...

But if he has any inkling about working in corporate America, then it matters a LOT, and anyone that doesn't understand that does so at their own peril. Companies do not hire thugs, period, and that's how he comes off.
People with assertive personalities such as Doug usually have no trouble getting by in life. Kids that grow up with a sense of entitlement (that word usually has a negative connotation, but in case it's entitlement in the sense of actively seeking success that you feel you deserve) tend to succeed in situations where a more timid, yet equally qualified, individual may fall my the wayside. I read a good book lately (Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell) that has definitely made me look at the world in a different way; I try to never write anybody off, and try to exercise forgiveness if warranted. Hopefully Doug will be a nice addition if he plays next season.

I hear he's a very likable kid and is well liked by his teamates. No questioning that on the court he is the real deal and will immediately be the best PG in the A-10.

I was just thinking last night that the coach should get him ready for next year, if he's really gonna contribute. It seems Doug has done okay holding it together for the last three months. Now we'll find out what he can do with the added stress of daily basketball practice. I hope he's really making some changes.
