The deals we have made for teams to come to Gillette like BC, Colorado, Vandy, Indiana, Temple etc are 1 and 1 deals (or 2 and 2), where we play one at home and one away. So no money is changing hands in those sorts of deals.

We did pay Maine $300,000 last year. That's on the low end of what FBS teams pay to play FCS schools.

That one was a waste of $300k......what a brutal performance. I'm having flashbacks.

I'm not so sure this is actually true, I think for bookeeping purposes, and yearly expense reports, money does change hands. It just goes the other way the next time they play.

Interesting. But it's just a wash though right?

This is the way our one for one's have worked in the past, factoring the difference of travel costs between markets. So for Massachusett's purposes, do hotels/flights/misc in Boston cost more than they do, for example, in Nashville? There is likely not significant variability when teams are flying into Boston v you flying there as those are chartered flights, but lodging is likely significantly higher in Boston. My guess is your net effect is a slight loss on these, but you are certainly paying off more than the difference with one and done's like your Michigan/ND games.

The big change is going to come if/when you are playing exclusively back in Amherst again. No offense intended, but you aren't going to get Vandy/CU/IU/BC on a one for one to Amherst as you have been able to for games at Gillette. If you are independent when you are exclusively back in Amherst, you are staring only five home games squarely in the face.

Then you are likely left with two large paydays, and likely two losses. That is a strategy to net $1.5MM or more a season, certainly, and provides cool travel experiences for your fan base. But it's difficult to build a winning tradition when the team gets beat up a couple of times a year by SEC/B1G/PAC 12/Big 12/ACC teams.

I was under the impression UMass was going to try and keep playing select games at Gilette for the forseeable future. Is that not the case?

Well we know we'll have 3 games at Gillette in 2016.

UConn, URI, and one other that hasn't been determined yet.

A bit concerned with the status of Sifrin....don't have any inside info, but looking at the roster, most of the new guys have been assigned a number. My assumption is that the new guys on campus are the ones with numbers (my hope anyway). Feel like this guy could be a game changer adding to our most talented skill group we've seen in the last few years. Anyone know anything?

^ Ditto. Why do some new guys have numbers and some new guys don't?

His twitter is just a bunch of re-tweets. Nothing about football in a few months.

^ I have been thinking the same thing, to me, hes our biggest possible threat. But, UMassathletics.com also doesn't have Lukas Koler or Drew Harris on the roster yet either, Harris was reported to already be on campus this summer.

Others to note that are not assigned numbers yet are,

Lamarriel Taylor
Randall West
Josh Smiley

As far as I can tell with Taylor (follow him on Twitter) is that he is coming, just probably not on campus yet. Hopefully that's the same with Sifrin.

I do remember Coach saying at the Boston event earlier this year that he had one scholarship to work with, maybe two. But he seemed confident in only one. Hopefully he was wrong and we had two to play with (Kolter and Harris)

Taylor is going to be wearing #2.
