KAEO DeJon Jarreau (2016)
Re: KAEO DeJon Jarreau (2016)
^ Dan Malone is better than this.
I like them both, but I actually like Gresham more than Jarreau.

Unfortunately, I don't think Dan is better than this.rsox1221 wrote:They've both consistently said that early playing time was a big part of this process for them. And of course, like you said, they're a package deal almost assuredly. Jarreau is the higher-rated prospect so he's going to get the stories but Gresham is just as important.NilesGold wrote:^ Kind of a spotty job by Malone on this one, totally ignored the significance of Gresham. Jarreau and Gresham are almost certainly a package deal. The thing is that neither is a top 20 type of player. Both are top 100 players largely based on potential rather than current production. If they want to attend the same school that's going to give them both lots of playing time early on, most of the schools on their lists aren't going to be a good fit.
And if you factor in the fact that they really seem to want to leave Louisiana, that rules out two schools off the hop. I think Dan saw the 247 Crystal Ball predictions and went with it. He's usually much better than that.

Malone isn't wrong here-who's the last top 100 recruit we landed? Vinson? If Memphis, Texas, OK State, Florida, Purdue, etc are all going after this kid as well, saying we are a longshot to grab him isn't out of line.
Re: KAEO DeJon Jarreau (2016)
I generally think our beat writers do a decent job during the season. I do think however that the offseason stories they write contain a lot of "Report states..." vs. "According to sources..." I just think they rely a lot on what they read on the internet and regurgitate it rather than offer anything new. This is especially true with recruiting. Not a lot of digging going on.
It's not always the case and I do think it's kind of an issue around the media world, not just here. The internet has made it easier for reporters who aren't pressured to break scoops (IE the NFL reporters) to put it on cruise control.
Just my two cents.

Well, if he's cutting down again, then we're in the big leagues. Has stated a few times he wants to visit UMass. We've been on him and Gresham for a year-plus now. Also, if he's trimming his list Gresham won't be far behind.DeJon Jarreau
@LaDeeky
Top 5 coming real soon!!
We'll get to see how serious he is about leaving Louisiana (or not) and if the schools he's stated he wants to visit are the ones left in the running. He's already taken an official visit to Creighton with Gresham.
If I'm guessing a top-5 with the info we've seen, I'm saying Creighton, UMass, Texas, Miami are definitely in. After that, picking #5 is a crapshoot. I'd say one of Oklahoma/Oklahoma State/Florida. And of course, Gresham's would be the same.

What you're forgetting is anyone on this site is in the top 5% of UMass fandom out there. There are plenty of casual fans who would have never heard the names of a recruit, and just circulating information that's readily available on the internet is still a means of looping people in to UMass in the offseasonJackson96 wrote:I generally think our beat writers do a decent job during the season. That's fine and all, but a little deeper digging never hurt anyone, especially since its got to be fairly easy to get in touch with these kids and/or coaches given social media.
I don't think of regurgitating what you read and saying "report states that..." as reporting despite having the word report in it. At least not when it seems to happen so much. Malone does this way more than vautour, who will at least have a few off season notebooks with good tidbits.

Re: KAEO DeJon Jarreau (2016)
New article from Scout (with a brief video clip) about the duo and how they are definitely a package deal. Jarreau tweeted about a top 5 initially, then I think it went to 6. This article mentions 6 or 7 school lists for the both of them. Who knows, but I hope it comes soon.
The real top 5 will be the schools they take OVs to. They already went on one to Creighton, they are going to Oklahoma and Miami (FL). That leaves them two more. They have both said repeatedly that they want to visit Texas and UMass. I think that's your top 5, and LSU as #6 if it goes there because they've visited unofficially several times (proximity and all).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but since I don't have insider access a little speculation is in order. Note there are 6 # at the bottom of the quote. UM is Miami, OU is Oklahoma and the rest are obvious. There are 6 of them and we are among them. He said he is picking a final 6.

Looks like the UT isn't as obvious...it's Tulane.

DeJon Jarreau and Brison Gresham are each down to seven schools: Miami, Tulane, LSU, Creighton, UMass, Oklahoma, USC.

Texas makes a whole lot more sense.. Especially considering their desire to leave the state. Where is Borzello getting this top 7 from?

Re: KAEO DeJon Jarreau (2016)

According to VerbalCommits (which is great but is not gospel) USC, Creighton, and LSU do not have enough spots to take them both. That kinda rules them out to me. Tulane...I'm not buying that.
That leaves the top 3 IMO of Oklahoma, Miami, and UMass. OU+UM are the two schools they just scheduled OVs too. That only leaves us, and I'm sure that'll get done once the Champions Center is finally finished.
I'd bring them up on Homecoming weekend, but that's just me.

Yeah. Tulane is TU and Texas is UT, but the green logo sure isn't a Longhorn.MJatUM wrote:Texas makes a whole lot more sense.. Especially considering their desire to leave the state. Where is Borzello getting this top 7 from?
