And he would take 2 mil to take the job here too...oops we arent paying anyone that kind of ching. So much for that...when are you people going to understand that we arent going to get a top name here...it's just not going to happen. Calipari was not a big name when he came here....remember?Winslow05 wrote:I would take Bruce Pearl here in a second. All his baggage, and this game asside, he is a great recruiter, great in game coach, and he is as enthusiatic about the game as you can be. He has a personality that could even get our fanbase excited.

hypothetical
Here's a hypothetical for you. What happens if Bruce Pearl gets let go by Tennessee (likely, I think), and then expresses interest in coming to UMass. I'm not saying he'd do this, but he is a local guy.
Would you let DK go for Pearl?

See above, we'd never be able to pay him half of what he wanted, plus he comes with NCAA baggage...I dont think we'd even consider him to be honest. Oh, and Kansas 28 BU 24 so far...

Actually, I would not do it this year. I do think it's early to pull the plug on DK. I have zero confidence that he will do any better the next couple of years, that's just opinion, not fact. I could be wrong, and I certainly hope I am. It's been known to happen. But mainly, I think Perl needs to take a year or two off from head coaching, after the mess he made at TN. He needs to figure out how and why he screwed up the way he did, and make the necessary personal changes. Otherwise, he'll repeat the same mistakes wherever he goes. IMHO.

I don't like him but the guy can coach. No argument there but look what happened at Indiana when they hired Sampson who had lots of baggage. Set the program back at least another 5 years from doing any damage in Big 10.Winslow05 wrote:I would take Bruce Pearl here in a second. Re: hypothetical
At this point I wouldn't let DK go for any coach. McCutcheon already stated DK will be the coach for 2011-12. Firing him now would be a really shitty thing to do, especially to an alum.sbloombe wrote:Here's a hypothetical for you. If you think it's too early to pull the plug, how can you have no confidence? Et Tu Len?.?uz2b-len wrote:Actually, I would not do it this year. I do think it's early to pull the plug on DK. Please think before you type.
And it's full circle on the life of a coach as Pearl was blacklisted from coaching in a sense for some time because of the stigma of being a rat.senior citizen wrote:Pearl committed serious recruiting violations and then, even more significantly, lied to investigators. That's a whole lot of baggage.

Right, because our AD is a big fan of giving our coach a public vote of confidence last week...the coach being a beloved former student/player, and then firing him just to open the position up to hire a guy who would have been FIRED for breaking NCAA regulations. Not a year or two away to let it pass, but a matter of days after the incident at Tennessee hit it's boiling point. I think the college world has learned that lesson already from Indiana.
You want to pitch that to us UMass fans, go for it. But maybe, just maybe, one of the existing threads about DK and the UMass coaching spot would be more appropriate...so we can point fingers and call the idea ridiculous there instead
