Talk about a kick to the nuts, wow! This really hurts, now we HAVE to have JF come back.....we are awfully thin at guard. Gonna need some time to digest this, hopefully his appeal works out.

No words. Talk about letting your team and fanbase down.

This sucks on so many levels. Even if he wins the appeal, he wouldn't be eligible next fall since he dropped out in the spring semester, right? It will hurt the APR also. You lose one point for a player not coming back at the end of a semester and another if he is not eligible. So that's two points lost for him.

Hidden in the article it also says Vinson is in Dallas working out. I hope he has enough credits to graduate and he hasn't dropped out or else that will be a loss of two more APR points. Izzy already hurt the APR by becoming ineligible mid-year.

I really have a very bad feeling right now. This is terrible news for the program.

Damn, this is devastating news. Jesse was one of my favorites on this team, and one of the most fun to watch. I talked to him at the Fordham game this year (right after his injury), and at several parties my junior/senior year at UMass. Extremely easy going and friendly guy.

I really wonder what the 'incident' was that occurred in November, and how is it possible that he was suspended for just that one exhibition game, but now he is being forced to leave after playing half of last season? Doesn't make much sense to me. I really hope he is able to win his appeal.

If he is done at UMass, I think we will miss his defense and ball handling ability the most. His offense is replaceable, although I will miss his fearlessness in taking (and making) clutch shots, as well as his ability to explode offensively (vs. Ohio last year).

Keeping my fingers crossed that he finds a way to win his appeal and play one more year at UMass, but if that isn't the case, there might be a couple positives that come from this:

1. If Farrell was concerned about splitting time, he will now be able to play major minutes the entire season and be an integral member of a team that should make it back to the NCAA tourney.

2. This could also open the door for DG in terms of increased playing time and increased role in the offense

I hope this isn't the last we have seen of Jesse.

Great we are back down to 3 guys that can dribble! DK needs to get a kid that can play next year if he can. Not looking good.

largeman, if it's an appeal thing and he is allowed back, would he still be ineligible this fall if it wasn't his choice to leave? This really blows, Jesse was a big part of this team and it would have been a nice story to see him come back after such a shitty injury and play again
This program has no luck

It's April 11th, not the 1st, so someone fucked up this April Fools joke, right?

If he won his appeal and was re-instated, but not eligible for the fall semester, that would be okay since he would probably have been rehabbing in the fall anyway.

My guess is that his transcript will read "administrative withdrawal" so there won't be any grades, just as if he got very sick in the middle of the semester and had to leave. It won't affect his GPA, but he would need to make up credits over the summer to keep his 24 per year requirement. Administratively, this sounds like the same situation the athletes who were at Harvard faced - the process needed to filter through University chanels, and would take some time. Most of the athletes withdrew from school, knowing they would lose a year if the hearing didn't go their way. If he got kicked out mid-semester, there is no reason to expect he will be invited back to campus this fall, so I think he runs out of his five years. Too bad for everyone involved.

Maybe there actually was more to him not sitting on the bench for the Butler game....

On another note:

I was at the Basketball Banquet last night and it should have been a 'red flag' to me that Jesse Morgan was not there, was not mentioned, and was not listed when they gave out the pictures to each member (including Derrick Gordon)

As far as graduating Derek mentioned how Farrell graduated in December (pretty impressive) and that Terrell and Freddie would be graduating in May.

Vanmeter, I agree with you. I asked about Jesse and was told that he was in Philly rehabbing. That sounded a little odd, but I took it at face value. I did find it odd that they never talked about Jesse's contribution to the team this year or his progress in rehab. His name was never mentioned. Same with Izzy. Sometimes you have to read between the lines at the banquet. If someone doesn't show up and they aren't mentioned it is usually a telltale sign that somethig is up.

So, if things shake out the current way, does that mean 3 schollys open? Izzy, JF and Morgan right?

No, if all three leave then we have 2 open scholarships. But as I understand it, the door isn't closed on any of the three. The situation is still very much unresolved.
