It's hard to put the majority of blame on Cady. The double team was there pretty much as the pass was reaching him. Sure, he could have made better decisions with the ball once he got it but there was very little movement to the open lanes. I put the blame more on coaching since they knew what the defense was going to do and they still had no plan to attack it. We did get some open looks when the ball was reversed out of the double team but the turnovers outnumbered the open looks and we missed them anyway.UMass87 wrote:Cady turned the ball over on about a quarter of his non-rebound touches. I'm sorry but that's not good.

Cady is as good a rebounder an any in this league and will be missed His problem is more a result of our terrible perimeter game. If he got one and 1 matchups all year, he would score 20 every game.

I'm certainly not putting the majority of the blame for the loss on Cady (in fact I don't blame him at all but I don't think his was a great performance either). I suppose Cady may not be able to handle the double-teams because of coaching (and/or teammates not moving into position to provide relief) but Cady has been doing this for four years. I just hoped he'd have figured it out by now.Camby4Life wrote:It's hard to put the majority of blame on Cady. The double team was there pretty much as the pass was reaching him. ^ Reading defenses and double teams and passing is a skill and Lalanne isn't that good at it, not everyone is. Big men that can do it are rare. Not everyone is good at everything, accept it. I have no idea what kind of direction/guidance the coaches are giving him to deal with double teams, for all I know they're telling him to attack and look for his shot anyway, hence the excessive turnovers. If people are going to be ridiculous enough to blame UMass' struggles this season on Lalanne, they might as well blame the walkons for not contributing more because he's the best and most consistent player on this team by a mile.

I think if you read my posts you'll see I have said the same things about Cady (best player on the team etc.) Best player on the team is looking like modest praise these days, though.

I think you're letting Cady off the hook a little here. Nobody is expecting Cady to be seeing passing lanes through the defense, with how quick teams have collapsed on him this year he should be barely holding the ball... Grab it and send it back out in one motion. You do bring up a very good point in what he is being told to do by coaches though. Who knows if he's even being told to do anything.NilesGold wrote:^ Reading defenses and double teams and passing is a skill and Lalanne isn't that good at it, not everyone is. One thing I would have liked to see more is Cady facing up to the basket. I think he has a decent shot from about 10 ft out.
