His career trajectory has not been leaps and bounds. He has bounced around mainly the same level. Many years under Kliff Kingsbury. The shaky part was the trouble he got in while a coach at UMass. Yes he is "only 36". Many younger coaches are getting their starts. Lots of young 30 somethings at position coaches, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Coen being a prime example of that trend-"McVay effect". I think it is worth trying to get him. His career could take off. He's probably way out of our league, but maybe not. Success next year, he would be too far gone. Tired of playing the what if we offered so and so and took a risk-Neal Brown, Liam, etc.inthescoop wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 7:32 pmNot moved up quickly? He's only 36 and a big part of the Jaguars success this year. What part of the Jags season was shaky?minutefanjsf wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 7:05 pmYup. That’s why I said give it a shot. S. Whip has not moved up the coaching ranks quickly. Being an OC no matter where it is is technically a step up from all the jobs he’s had. He also had a shaky start.inthescoop wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 6:51 pm
LOL UMass OC would be such a downgrade from being a NFL QB coach
What will it take in 2026?

My biggest issue with the piece is how he does comparisons. In 2015, we grossly under spending football at a FCs level and not FBS level. While saying Don Brown's buyout was 1.4m, and the new coach salary is also 1.4m. But failing to acknowledge it was a 2 year bytout as Don's base salary was 700k.doubledribble wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 5:48 pm https://www.wgbh.org/news/local/2026-01 ... s-scrutiny
We look cheap if he compared us to UConn or Boston College, the other more relevant New England FBS programs.
I don't like the way we give contract raises and extensions for 1 good season as Frank Martin. To reward a good seaon, use bonuses that do not raises costs and future buyouts.
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

Illinois State looking good. Hmm they have some coaches. Perhaps an OC we can use.

Can’t believe Zoo’s sons college application process is the most exciting topic of this board since joining the MAC.ZooMass84 wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 9:55 am I know you guys love to hear about my son's college plans: he got into Alabama, Auburn, and Penn State. Rejected at Georgia. So I might have to go to Happy Valley or Tuscaloosa this fall![]()

Should have sent the kid to UMass.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades
