Re: McGuirk Upgrade
As I understand it it is part of the plan to replace the south west high rise dorms.
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Wow. Replacing the high rises; they should sell tickets to watch the implosions to help offset the costs.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
They want to replace them because they are obsolete and it would cost too much to renovate them.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
They were built as "temporary buildings" to house the baby boom with the thought the population at colleges would decrease. Every other residence area has been slowly getting refurbished.Berkman wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 3:35 pm They want to replace them because they are obsolete and it would cost too much to renovate them.

I lived in a corner room in Kennedy for a year (definitely stunk not having the z style room) on the 11th floor. Good memories but all of those towers were in pretty bad shape 25 years ago, can’t imagine what they are like now. I lived in Mary Lyon 2 of my other years, you get to know everyone in the dorm when you live in those smaller dorms.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
They certainly aren't replacing Southwest, or at least the towers, without having something else already built and ready to host... that's a massive amount of students. If anything, it would be a phased process.
With that said, it would be sad to see the towers disappear. Always loved how UMass was sort of a city in the middle of nowhere.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
My original position on this included the barn as a priority as well, but this team was / is so bad they need to give some sort of competitive justification for that spend. I am not saying they need to get bowl eligible first, but they have been the worst FBS program collectively over the last 5-8 years [and arguably since the went FBS.]Quann wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 8:20 amJack gets it. The stadium upgrade goes hand in hand with having a serious FBS program. Without it we'll keep floundering along with no serious investment in the stadium or players.Jack wrote: Fri Dec 05, 2025 5:42 am ^ Totally disagree.
Now i view that position as just another convenient excuse not to upgrade McGuirk (oops we spent that on nil) - which is incredibly dumb and shortsighted on multiple levels including recruiting and future football success.
btw this all goes back to having a financial plan to succeed
if they are planning to spend $3M - double it this year and next year, then you should be able to prove you can win at least little bit....

One place they are talking about are the parking lots between southwest and the FB stadium.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 6:52 pm They certainly aren't replacing Southwest, or at least the towers, without having something else already built and ready to host... that's a massive amount of students. Bamford must be backing that plan because that would a terrible move for football parking.Berkman wrote: Mon Dec 08, 2025 8:21 amOne place they are talking about are the parking lots between southwest and the FB stadium.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 6:52 pm They certainly aren't replacing Southwest, or at least the towers, without having something else already built and ready to host... that's a massive amount of students. Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Think the idea is also to bring the football stadium into more multipurpose area and tying into the campus. There is more than just parking lots and new student housing, but focusing on getting improvements/upgrades approved for now.eldonabe wrote: Mon Dec 08, 2025 8:29 amBamford must be backing that plan because that would a terrible move for football parking.Berkman wrote: Mon Dec 08, 2025 8:21 amOne place they are talking about are the parking lots between southwest and the FB stadium.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Sun Dec 07, 2025 6:52 pm They certainly aren't replacing Southwest, or at least the towers, without having something else already built and ready to host... that's a massive amount of students. I know, I'm aware of the plans/ideas. My point was more about the construction being completed before Southwest disappears.

Nothing new, except some renderings.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Complete amateur hour. Nonsensical renderings that look like chat gpt images. An hour long presentation seemingly geared more towards former players and full of factually inaccurate information and blaming the past.

Hahaha, so true. “Wait I can make the game day experience even worse!
