Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Had the kid already signed the paperwork? Kind of a bush league move to honor the ship and then yank it three weeks later and right before the semester starts.UMass1991 wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 10:36 amCoach Joe pulled his scholarship after honoring it when hiredminutefanjsf wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 6:53 pmhttps://x.com/snoozie223/status/1876720 ... Well, that didn't last long. It seems like Bell did a lot of the recruiting work on DBs. I wonder how many we'll lose?

No it is not the norm for scholarships to yanked, especially when all the paper work is submitted and the player hasn’t stepped foot on campus, yet. Coaches don’t even really like to pull scholarships from guys that have already played under one. They will help convince a player to move on, but rarely do they pull a scholarship.Quann wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 9:03 am That's big boy football. Deal with it. Not that big of a deal.

Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Do we at least have a reason for why it was yanked?
Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
You know what, we've got a lot more to be concerned about than this regarding the FB team. This is a drop in the bucket. Here's maybe some good news:
New England Sports Review @nesportreview
Great hire for UMass! Jordan Hogan is going to be a great addition to the team for a new Wide Receiver Coach.
Matt Zenitz @mzenitz

UMass is hiring San Francisco 49ers offensive assistant Jordan Hogan as its new wide receivers coach, a source tells @CBSSports/@247Sports.
Hogan was with the 49ers the last two years and worked with receivers like Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings.

Nothing public aside from Dad’s rant. And, there are legitimate reasons that do allow for a scholarship to be pulled while it is in force-disciplinary and academic reasons. The school can’t comment on either of those. Just hoping that the school did it “right”. It sucks that the only word out there is one sided.

As I said, not that big of deal. New coach, stuff like this is going to happen until he settles in and has the guys he wants here.

^I agree, comments what Coach Joe did is "bush league," when he is following the rules are incorrect. Also, DH wasn't coming to UMass until next fall, not three weeks before the semester.

https://www.gazettenet.com/UMass-footba ... e-54383828 Fwiw. He was scheduled to enroll in January. Yes. New coaches can revoke scholarship offers. The dad seems to be saying that the scholarship was going to be honored when coach H was hired and then three weeks later changed his mind after paper work was signed with the new coaching staff. If dad’s take is accurate then yes it is “bush league”.dennisdent wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:55 pm ^I agree, comments what Coach Joe did is "bush league," when he is following the rules are incorrect. Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
That article was from almost a YEAR ago. That was his family's plan and the former coaching staff for him at UMass and things changed. He didn't even sign until December 4 and that was by Alex Miller (no longer on staff) during the early signing period. Coach Joe came on after December 6 which meant he could pick his own players, and he owed DH nothing. DH got CUT by the new staff--nothing bush league about it. Coach Joe hasn't even held one practice and you're giving him shit for following the rules.minutefanjsf wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 8:02 pmhttps://www.gazettenet.com/UMass-footba ... e-54383828 Fwiw. It was announced on dec 4 that coach Joe was hired. It was announced the day after he agreed to be coach. https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ball-coach. Alex Miller was on staff with coach Joe. The signings seemed to be aligned with the hiring. Coach was introduced at a press conference on 12/6. Again, I am saying if he as coach, which he was when the kid signed, agree to the signing and then cut him/yanked the offer that is bush league. Do you not agree with that? If coach Joe on 12/3 or 12/4 told the player his offer was still good and then reneged on it after he signed that would be bad right? That is what the dad is claiming. The dad could be wrong. Maybe coach Joe didn’t agree to honor the offer. Who knows? I am not giving the coach shit. I am simply saying that if the dad’s take is accurate, then yes it is bush league. If dad’s take is inaccurate, totally fine.
BTW there were five early signings on 12/4. The only one not honored was DH’s. Pretty sure kids wouldn’t sign on 12/4 if they didn’t know who the coach was or if they didn’t have conversations with coaches or the AD.

Plus in this day and age, if a kid can jump ship at any time, even when he says he's gonna stay and the team is counting on him, then a coach can pull a scholly.
