Considering we had "Brito", severe in NOT an overstatement. Brito made Doug Flutie look like Nicola Jokic.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Wed Aug 23, 2023 9:05 amTheInsider wrote: Wed Aug 23, 2023 8:17 am I was critical of many of his calls last year but you can't ignore our struggles on offense had more to do with our severe lack of talent at the qb position and if they actually put a ball on target it was often dropped.
I haven't ignored that, though I believe "severe" is an overstatement. We've danced this tango many times already, Insider.

3 days to go and I think this is the season we've suffered for from 2019 Rutgers with "Coach" Gomer. Never forget on UMass 247 NJNole said "You'll be sorry"!!!! I thought Gomer was awesome with the lead in the second quarter over Rutgers then we never scored again. When SIU kicked our butts I said on the other board to get rid of Gomer and I was told I was being "premature".......Don Brown is the right coach at the right time for us!!!!!

I also agree.. both were very trueInnervisionsUMASS wrote: Wed Aug 23, 2023 10:16 amCalmass9 wrote: Wed Aug 23, 2023 9:39 am Two things can be true. The talent at QB last year was a major problem and Casula's astonishing lack of creativity with the play calling was also a major problem. Hopefully both are fixed on Saturday.

I'm going 24-17 Minutemen. Just a hunch
Time to Win
Re: Week 0, Game 1: NMSU First of 2 ESPN Saturday games.
I genuine think we win. NMSU was waaay worse than their record last year and they lost a decent amount. There is no way they are any better than us up front and our defense is by far the best unit in the game.
If we can toss the ball even just competently, we can score points.
UMass 24 Aggies 13
If we win this game... I think we are going to have a special season. Cannot wait for Saturday.

Captain Obvious reporting his 2 keys to the game. There are many more, but these are my 2 favorites:
1. O line needs to win, both in the running game and in pass protection.
2. Our front 7 has to contain the QB and get them in 2nd and long as much as possible. Our secondary is our strength.

We have the best staff since the move to FBS. We have our deepest team since the move to FBS... we are due. We see turn-arounds every year. Why not us???

Turnovers will be a big story. This will be Puma's first ever start at QB and regardless of how talented he is I'm anticipating a turnover at some point. Even if the offense is improved and we can actually move the ball a bit, the defense is going to have to carry the day and has a lot on its shoulders. If we win the turnover battle and hit a couple of FG's I think we win the game. 27-24 UMass, defense gets a pick in the final minute to ice the game.

Lots of good talk about the Minutemen on the Action Network college football podcast today. Stuckey had UMass +6.5 as his best bet of the week. They've historically been very down on UMass but were in agreement this team should be much improved and think the Minutemen are poised for an upset
