Re: Time for a new coach
Multiple MAC coaches canned.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

There have been 4 coaches let go in the MAC:
That’s what happens when Travis Steele and John Groce go a combined 35-1.
Ball State - Michael Lewis
Eastern Michigan - Stan Heath
Northern Illinois - Rashon Burno
Western Michigan - Dwayne Stephens
Re: Time for a new coach
Notably penurious Boston College fired Grant with 3 years left on his contract at 2.4 Million per year.
Of course the AD there, Blake James, didn’t hire him although he Bamforded him (extended) 2 years several years ago

Ball St. did Lewis dirty. Won his last 4 games and got canned. I just don't think they have the resources there to do much better. Another coach I would 100% take over our current leader.
Give WBB more money.
Re: Time for a new coach
If Frank is let go (or leaves) and they let Bamford even look at a list of possible replacements I am officially quitting Umass.

Re: Time for a new coach
I think coaches who are teachers are still going to get paid as nicely as they are now. Coaches that have a track record in developing lesser heralded players will save schools $ in NIL because smart players will know that it's better to leave a few 100k on the table and play for a guy who can get them playing time and help them reach the next levels in their games.DanaDingle3 wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2026 1:43 pm Wetzel's right: https://x.com/i/status/2030329579689111641
Wonder how long it'll take UMass to change course. If Frank had any pride, he'd take a pay cut to allocate more to players.
Unfortunately, Frank does not fall into this category.

Since this thread has already taken multiple tangents, I guess I'll keep it going.
A Bona supporter is putting a lot of blame at Woj's feet for how Bona underperformed this year

I've been banging this drum for a while now, maybe 1-2 years. The NBA is not the NCAA, but look at the distribution of $ between players vs coaches and other support staff. In the NBA, on average, the coach makes less than a single player. I think we pay Frank more than all of his players combined.Plano Minuteman wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2026 10:42 amI think coaches who are teachers are still going to get paid as nicely as they are now. I'm not sure how long it will take, but some schools at the MAC/A10 type level will figure it out and pay their coach like $400k just to coach, have a GM who makes like $200k and then spend $2-5M on the players and smoke all of the other schools who are paying out the same amount for players+coaches combined.

2 more "names" will be on the market:
According to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, Arizona State will “part ways” with head coach Bobby Hurley following the 2025-2026 season. On3’s Pete Nakos has since confirmed.
Georgia Tech fired men's basketball coach Damon Stoudamire on Sunday, ending his tenure at the school after three seasons.

Re: Time for a new coach
Gerry McNamara would be a home run hire for UMass
Re: Time for a new coach
This only matters to us because we're expected to play at ASU next season, unless the return game agreement has since been canceled.69MG wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2026 9:02 pm 2 more "names" will be on the market:According to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, Arizona State will “part ways” with head coach Bobby Hurley following the 2025-2026 season. Syracuse just canned Autry, he’s probably going there.
