Lets face it, Carbuccia is Frank pet. Praises him every game despite the fact he cannot shoot or play defense. Placide was miraculous - got us into overtime and then made 2 3's (one and old fashioned one and then a deep 3 from corner) to put us up one.The fact that Frank is calling him out for the last play is ridiculous. Should have taken time as he failed to do in Buffalo game with the play right in front of him. I do not think he has once praised Bettiol all season despite the nearly double double every game.

Conversely, Banks was awful 3-18 on 2 pointers and 2-12 from 3.

not only was Banks awful last night - but he got another T - guy made both FT''s and we coincidentally lost by 1 point. After the T Frank sat him for an extended period of time down the stretch when we could have used his scoring. Banks is a hot head and has received at least 4 T's this season - thats a lot for a college kid. Can't help but wonder if he had this reputation at 5 star camps or whatever these kids play in nowadays and at other places he played - wonder if it prevented bigger schools from recruiting him - maybe they didn't want to deal with the headaches?

I think Marcus is just frustrated with how the year has gone, and some of the calls against him have been bad too. The kid wants to win. His frustration is showing more now but I think he's been pretty consistent except for a couple games like last night, where he's been really off. I'd take him on my team any day

I agree, Floyd. Shooters are streaky to begin with, that's just the nature of shooting from farther away. Add in the losing and I can see why he'd be frustrated. I also remember a play at Miami where the opposing player threw a punch at him, and he got the tech. He might be a little hot headed, but he seems like a good dude and we've heard all season long that these are good guys that get along. It's a tough time to be a UMass fan or player, so I'll give him a pass. Not a tough time to be a coach or administrator, they assume no responsibility.

I'm probably wrong, as it seems like he actually took some time to research, but wasn't Green Bay worse? I could have sworn they were in the 330 range when we lost to them earlier this year?

I'm not a KenPom subscriber so I can't dig into it, but I trust he's pulling it right.

GB was bad defensively early in the season, but that was due in part to having played at Kansas and Minnesota. The Collegian mentioned it: "...UMass, which managed only 25 points in 20 minutes against a Green Bay defense ranked 334th in Div. I going into Saturday’s game."

He predictably talks about how there's a locker room issue (1:45), how the transfer portal and NIL are ruining things (8:30), etc. When things are going poorly, he has plenty of built in excuses that he returns to every time. Now these things may be true, but the problem is that they've become a recurring theme with him and he clearly has a tough time managing them.

At around the 14:00 mark he talks about the end of game decision not to use a timeout when Placide was trapped. Keep in mind there was at least 5 seconds left, plenty of time to set up and run a play from that location.

So now you call timeout. Now you got to run a sideline out. You know what we don't have?...We don't have a guy that you just run a play, throw him the ball, he goes and make a basket...you know, we're a jump shot. We become without Leo, we become a catch and shoot team.

Uh yeah, you dolt. Run a play to one of the 3 jump shooters that were on the floor between Parker, Placide, and Banks. They were all there. I feel like I'm losing my mind. He says they're a jump-shooting team, but refuses to call TO and run a play for one of the shooters at the end of the game. Bizarro.

That is just a ridiculous quote... he has Banks, Parker and now, clearly, Placide, that can all fill that role with that amount of time.

AND, should he had been available - with 5 seconds left, if your first option is Leo for what is essentially a last second shot, that's not great either. He's not a catch and shoot guy around the rim, nevermind outside.


Even if it doesn't work out, you ALWAYS call the timeout when the player is trapped in that scenario. Yikes.

This goes against everything Frank has preached all year that this is a great group of guys and he enjoys working with them. When things go sour, you get to see the real nature of the team. I'm not going to speculate who the player or players are that are causing the problem, but this is exactly what happened at the end of last season.

I was told by very reliable sources that we had locker room issues last year. I'm sure others on this board can confirm this. We ended up losing 7 of our last 8 games. I see the same signs this year. It looks to me like one or more players have checked out. The common denominator is the head coach.
